The Wine Underground IS a basement - hence underground.
Or at least it was - before it exploded.

'Life' at the Old Lion went pretty well for all of about 10 months in 1992 IIRC.

McMahons Tonsley was a stinker. However, was one of the few places that believed my notso student 'ID'.

Grenfell Tunnel - arrrgh!!!!

the ***** ****** tavern ?? maybe but dont let this put you off from offering me other suggestions...thanks for your help. :prayer:

I know the one you are talking about, but f**ked if I can remember what it was called (killed too many brain cells in the '80's), it was the first place I ever saw 2 chicks pash in public.

'Club America.'

Proved beyond doubt that not every African-American has rhythm.

Yeah, remember "The Crypt".
What about these other dens of iniquity:
"Elizabeth West Rugby Club" (rough as guts venue, but every Aussie band played there)
Tivoli Hotel (now due for demolition...scene of many great gigs)
Bombay Bicycle Club (the original, that is, used to be at the Metropolitan Hotel, City)
Stagedoor (Shandon Hotel)

Remember the bearded clown who wore gold chains, a bandana and a white home-made jumpsuit with Ice-T plastered all over it?

Every time the DJ played a rap song, he would start breakdancing in the middle of the dancefloor.

Reakon he copped a few hidings in his time.

Wishing I was 35, I'll start with 70s discos - the Old Lion, Brickhouse, Sinatras in Hindley Street, Tavern 63 and Bogarts in Melbourne Street and towards the early 80s the Crypt and yes we'd venture to Jules as well as the original Toucan.

My 80s before I went to live in England was spent drinking at the Austral and the majority of my party time at Toucan 2 Hindley Street. There was also an original Heaven which was located in North Terrace downstairs which had some alternative types in which was open until morning and there was a good club at the Marryatville pub in Kensington but I can't remember what it was called. Some older pommie Harrington and bovver boot wearing types might know.

When we were 16, 2 mates and I caught a bus all the way to the Tonsley to sneak in a get a look at Bruce Samazan and Melissa Tkautz, ..... Iwas the only one that got in!.....then we caught the last bus home.

The end

I was there - Melissa got me up on stage to dance with her - very yummy.
It is what it is !!!

Saw ''The Divynyls'' at The Tiv many moons ago, still the best live Aussie show I've seen.
Was'nt the BBC opposite the market?

If were venturing into old dives from the 80's
Portabellos in Melbourne St (after the Duke closed for the night) on any night
Lark & Tinas in Hindley
Glenelg Life Savers or the Seacliff on a Wednesday night
The Cremorne on a Friday night (Street Corner Jack)
Could'nt leave out upstairs at the Arkaba (The Chunder) on a Thursday night.

That was it! My brothers and sisters went there back in the day.

Where the hell did I get Peter Sterling's?

Too much rugby league, methinks.
