I was working in Launceston for a while and commuting back to Adelaide. I was staying in some apartments on the main drag and one Saturday morning I awoke about 3.00am to a strange crackling sound I turned over and tried to go back to sleep.
The light in the room then started to flicker, which I thought was strange as it should be pitch black. I got up and looked out the window and saw the hedge was alight next to the building and heading for the building itself. Rang 000 and went out to try to find a hose the Fire Brigade were there in a couple of minutes as someone had being lighting other fires around the neighbourhood.
Had a bit of experience with fires over the years with brush fence fire in our units when just married moved out to Bridgewater and had two Ash Wednesday’s. Been in the Hills since and have had to fight fires around the property over a dozen times mostly caused by arsonists.
