True, but the 4 cylinder cars built by the other big makers are all imported. I'm saying toyota could be well positioned because the Camry is available in a 4 cylinder variant. I'm also thinking of the impact on those actually built here, lots of jobs there. If oil reaches 100-120 US per barrell, you may have to downsize regardless of you ample height  I remember the oil crisis of the late 70s and early 80s you could hardly give sixes and V8s away

It was the time Chrysler went broke and the Sigma was a really popular car, prior to that they sold the Chrylser Galant another small jap car. GMH sold an isuzu designed car as the gemini, Mazdas 323 s and 626 were rebadged as Fords. Ford dropped the V8 from it's line up. Large cars have never recovered from that era. Prior to that about 75% percent of cars sold here were large sixes from holden ford and Chrysler. Holden alone had about 45% of the market until the early 70s. large cars by local makers have about 20% of the Aust. Market today a very marked decline from the 70s and 80s. With the cars that Ford, GMH et al are making now this will decline further. The market has grown but the share held by Ford and GMH has declined. Unfortunately the best cars for todays climate are sourced from O/S by these makers. RIP Australian car industry.

The problem with most Ford sales RRTW is that Fords are so good they dont need to be replaced until theyre 20 years old hence why Fords sales are slower than Holdens. The Commodores fall apart after about 2 years hence their owners need to buy another one and that drives sales up.

PS The BA is good (it must be for Holden to try and copy them) but my fav Falcons were the 2 door coupes in the 70s, Id love one in good nick:

And although not as good looking the Falcon GT HOs were a pretty amazing car being the fastest cars in the world at the time.

I once owned a Falcon great mechanicals, certainly more technologically advanced than the commodore of the time ('83-84) but crap quality control, the body self destructed around me. I have always considered GM to be superior in overall quality than Ford, but more conservative in specification. Holdens last 20 years + as well, the public just likes GM products more, it's a fact

What stats?

I never dispute that Commodores sell more, just like VB sells more.

The only other stats I can remember quoting is Ford winning the last 3 championships and a recent Car of the Year.

Please explain to me why I have no idea about motoring as I'm not sure what I've got wrong??

These things mean nothing. I remember the Leyland P76 once won the car of the year. Fords Holdens like fridges, ya gotta have one but about as exciting as watching grass grow. Get a boat

Lets face it why do ppl need a V6 these days.. besides towing there is no reason ... many 4 cylinder vehicles are quite capable on the long drive , have far greater safety records and also better resale values.

the media love jumpin on the fuel price as the only reason why V6/V8 sales have dropped..
this is true to a certain degree but one other contributing factor now is that many sales reps and other employees that were offered a company car which would be either a ford, holden, mits, toyota in WHITE now are being offered car allowances in which many ppl are buying other vehicles... like mazda, honda, suburu and would say the quality of these are alot higher than our australian vehicles.

As I said before to a degree, the only car I can be comfortable in and get in and out with banging my knees being over 6 foot is a V6.

A mate came over from England a decade ago and was amazed at the power of my 4.1l 6 cylnider XD Falcon as he had a very similar Ford in the UK but it only had a 4 cylinder.
I couldn't imagine trying to overtake a truck on the open roads in an XD with a 4 cylinder, christ the country road toll would quadruple!

maybe u should try a Mazda6 ... jeez even the adelaide 36ers are having no problems getting in and out of theirs..

Rated last year as Number 1 in active safety beating commodore, falcon, camry , territory et c
