Get into the spirit for starters !! :D

Cook a meal for her.
Include a yummy dessert or valentine dessert like cheesecake with icing hearts.

Set up the table as such - (and have it set up before she walks in so it's a surprise):

Normal dinner setting.
Rose petals scattered over table.
Candle/s (red)
Love heart champagne glasses ($2 at cheap as chips!)
A single red rose on her dinner plate setting.
and/or a small teddy that simply says "I love you"
Romantic music in the background
Champagne

It doesn't have to be expensive - but it does have to be thoughtful.
Do you love her - then who cares if it's commericalism, blah, blah, blah - just do it :D
Besides think of the brownie points !!

Some good ideas there, for sure! I guess I should have titled this thread "GIRLS: Valentine's Day!"

Followed by a walk up Jetty Road to get Andersens Ice Cream, which you both then have as you walk along the beach, barefoot in the sand. From there, a drive to a nice cafe to have a coffee/hot chocolate, before a slow drive home, listening to Nigel Kennedy or the like, before home time :)

A top effort if you do all that, but blimey, I was kinda hoping not to raise the bar THAT high...

In that case....three packs of 2 minute noodles, cruise down to the Port, head through the Sip n Save and grab a 6 pack with Acca Dacca lilting from the speakers, before stopping into to buy a sundae at Macca's.
Can you guess where I'm calling from, the Las Vegas Hilton...

Furthermore...lol.

Cheesecake can be a homebrand one - so cheap doesn't matter - it's the hearts that count...lol
Purchase the icing hearts from any cake shop - they sell stuff like that from about 10c each.
The rose petals can be from cheap as chips as well - so can the single rose.
They sell all that sort of stuff there these days.

You can get out of it very cheaply - doesn't have to be diamond rings and gold jewellery or anything like that O:)

:D

Tell you what, I wouldn't say no to a keg of beer! :D But actually, there's this restaurant my partner keeps saying he will take me to and he never remembers. So if he WOULD remember it finally, I'd be happy.

I actually went a bit over the top with the spending this time round - but it's also because we're going to have a baby soon and my partner's been a bit stressed and I was going to do this anyway so he could have at least one day to unwind - Valentine's Day is just a convenient time to give it to him. I paid $350 for a gift voucher for a day's fishing charter for him and a mate.
Hey Goose, ya big stud! Take me to bed or lose me for ever.

Valentine's day is just a day to tell/show someone you love them - I mean - My grandmother used to to ring me and say happy valentines day :D
Also I think it's more for the young - pre kids than us older ones O:)

Commerialized rubbish...nothing romantic about following the herd on the one day the media and those wanting a profit tell you that you must be 'romantic'.

Do something on almost any other day of the year, when least expected and not necessarily for any specific reason...at least then it shows you used your brain and thought of the idea yourself...now that's romantic.

Exactly. My wife and I have never done anything for Valentines Day. Just another excuse for Florists and restaurants to flog their wares at inflated prices. Do something another day and surprise each other.

That said I'm probably due.

It just my personal opinion of it so I probably wouldn't try to change her view cos, no offence to your or anyone elses missus, but I suspect once your suckered into it you're pretty much stuck with it.

I know I've got mates who are...I'd consider a cuppa in bed romantic if it was out of character and was done just because he can but they judge romance by the number of ££££££££'s spent...very sad and a bit shallow imho.
