You're right - footy takes too much out of your body to train properly for CTB.

Guess i wont be training for the CTB for atleast another 5 years

And you clowns can run it in 50 minutes! Bloody hell that's not a bad time. I'd be struggling to do 1.15 I reckon. Maybe 1.10 tops.

I've walked it twice - both times under 2 hrs (just!).

Not being soft, just can't run for medical reasons. It's a good option for people who don't think they're quite up to it, 12 kms at top walking pace is still a fair workout!

Will be participating for the third time. 65 minutes or so is the aim.

Tip for rookies..find a nice set of pins to sit behind for a while. Makes the run a little less painful ;)

49.58 is a good time mate.

Before my shoulder op, I was comfortably running 11mks in 42-43 mins 3 times per week, plus a couple of sprint sessions.

I'm hoping to get back to that level within the 7 weeks, but injuries are a threat.

I've heard that the way people line up is ridiculous. Is it a good idea to even hang right back and start 30 mins after the official start?

Sounds like you will cruise it in under 50.
Once it's race day you tend to push yourself hard.
"It's a race, it's a race!"
Personally, starting at the back is a nightmare, once you hit anzacs people run about 10 abreast and if you are going full tilt you literally bump people out the way.
Definately worth getting as near the front as possible if you are serious.

Anything under 50min and you are either an athletic freak or have done some serious training. I have ran it 3 0r 4 times all around 55-56min. have found the the first 1-2km tough as far as dodging people but once you hit ANZAC highway it usually thins out a bit but then at the half way mark the people doing the 6km event start which can pack it up a bit. Have found i usually hit the wall at about Morphetville race course and the legs give in a bit due to lack of serious training. Have fun
I'm number 1, so why try harder!!

I'm gonna give it a crack, if I can. Aiming for 55 minutes as an 'A', out to an hour as a pass. It's my first go at it, in training I've stretched it up to 10kms in about 50 minutes, so should be OK with 5 weeks to go.

Been really enjoying the training, not sure what's happened. I've always looked at people jogging and wondered what the **** that's all about, now I'm one of the silly beggars.

In a bit of strange timing, the Pedal Prix event has been programmed for the same weekend out at Murray Bridge, which my daughter's in. It's a 24 hour Human Powered Vehicle race. The run is the morning after they've been going 18 hours or so. Could be a damn hard thing and if I get no sleep, Ill be a no show. (-|

You ought to check out the official training program. If you're at that level already, with some higher intensity training, you'd smash 55 I reckon. But good luck and I agree with your 2nd point - nothing better than getting in the zone and just being able to get out and burn some km's!

I bought a kick arse new pair of New Balance shoes today. Tonight's run was super cush, after 3 years on the same old wheels!!
Did a lazy 6kms in 28 mins, so starting to get there. I'd like to drop about 5kg before the day though!

Thanks DA. You may be right, but I've still got enough laziness left in me to go relatively easy this year. Might try and ramp it up a little next year with a few more k's under the belt.

I've got the training program printed out. Just found that 6 days a week is a bit much. I do like the idea of lighter training thrown in there now, not just busting out a big run all the time.

With the shoes, I've been put on to eastbay.com. Find out your size in the stores, then buy from these guys in the US. You'll generally pick them up near half the price even with postage, good stuff.

That website is pretty nuts. They have a seriously large number of shoes!!!

I bought these on the weekend:

http://www.eastbay.com/product/model:137167/sku:10642115/New%20Balance%201064%20-%20Men%27s?supercat=home&cm=GLOBAL%20SEARCH%3A%20KEYWORD%20SEARCH#sku=10642040

Got them for $140AUD, soI might have got them marginally cheaper online with their $10 off deal.

The website is in USD.
I didn't use the website - I got mine at Joggers World.
But they look like they're all over the sizing thing. Worth a punt if you can get Kayano's for half price!!
