Something which sort of explains that is how Colonel Light Gardens used to be a council area just by itself.
Another interesting road fact, which I didn't realise for many years, was where the name "Glynburn" Rd came from...

Doesnt also have something to do with the fact that CLG (as in the whole suburb) is heritage listed or something?

Yeah I think it is Heritage Listed...I can double check as my Dad is heavily involved with the CLG RSL, and knows a fair bit about the area...
The street design of CLG was meant to resemble the Union Jack...

the freaky thing is you can nearly use that 1940's Street Directory to get yourself around Adelaide. Look how many tram lines Adelaide had back then, that is what amazes me more that the government choose to get rid of them.

Interesting to note that a street in my old suburb of Klemzig used to be called Rhine St prior to WWII, it is now called Thames Avenue. Of course Klemzig was changed to Gaza and then back to Klemzig after WWII but there are little bits that still remain. Also the Gaza footy club remains although the pronounciation has changed from original intent

It appears as though the change happened some time between 1961 and 1965.

In the Gregory's 16th Edition (published 1961) Regency Rd was known as:

 Islington Rd between Torrens and Churchill roads
 Irish Harp Rd between Churchill and Main North roads
 Rakes Rd between Main North and Hampstead roads

In the Gregory's 17th Edition (published 1965) it had changed to Regency Road the whole way.

By the way, if anyone has old Gregory's Adelaide Street directories lying around, I am prepared to pay some money for them ($5-$10) provided they are ones I don't have and are in reasonable condition.

I am currently missing editions 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,9,11,12,14,20,22,24,25,32,33,38,44,45,49,50,51

I'm pretty sue there are a lot of over/underpasses planned for South Rd.
I've certainly seen plans for an overpass over the freight train line and Cormack Rd at Wingfield.

OG Road was named after Oscar Gillies, he owned large sections of land back in the 1850 I think it was, he was a German immigrant of Some note, Gillies Plains was named after him as well

Irish Harp Rd ran between Churchill and Main North roads and is now part of Regency Road. OG Road has always been OG Road.

I was interested to read this and the post about the naming of OG Road.
I had, years ago, been told it became "Old Glynde Rd", thence OG Rd, after the new Glynde Rd was built, and the new Glynde Rd was later merged with Burnside Rd to become Glynburn Rd.
