Perth's not far behind in that respect. How is it that Melbourne just thinks of something and builds it without all the drama?

Not always the best solution unfortunately. Docklands is a logistical mess. Dead at night, and roads that double as a car park during peak hour, and the "new" Port Melbourne looks like it was bulit from Lego.

RAH and Desal Plant definitely required new infrastructure and will have massive benefits in the years to come for SA.

Adelaide Oval maybe a social benefit but should have been put back for 5 years

Unfortunately the new RAH is a blank cheque, the government won't tell the public what it will cost. The desal plant was reactive policy, it has the potential to pollute the gulf and has a very significant on going cost, Adelaide Oval is plenty big enough now, at a Port match say with 30,000 in attendence there would still be 8,000 empty seats. The Crows might get a full house, it will just make their tickets more desirable. Everyone I know who is a SACA member is voting against this...god bless em. I'm hoping the Crows and Port continue to be unsuccessful, continue to make losses, so we can piss the AFL crap back across the border where it belongs

as i said theres to many people with their fingers in the pie. to many people dont want to upset their friends in the council chambers in regards to adelaide CBD developments. If you upset your mate in their you are out on your backside. Not the case in Melbourne im sure...its certainly not the case in Brisbane. If the members in Adelaide council came up here they would get a rude shock on how things are done without complaints...

There is nothing wrong with development if it sensible and we are not paying for it for the next two decades.

1. We could have had a redevoped hospital on the original site for a lot less money.

2. The government jumped into the desalination plant, environmental concerns were brushed aside and a contract signed in indecent haste. The government did not give enough consideration to other technologies like storm water collection. We will pay for this whether we need it or not.

3. The current Adelaide oval holds 38,000 it is big enough already. The AFL need more that a big oval to fix their problems, the product sucks.

Was talking about this last night with the parents over a nicely cooked T-Bone & a couple of Hoegaardens, and the thing that Adelaide lacks overall is a decent bloody road system.

I'd rather see something happen there first, a decent North - South connector. But hey it's a road and that's boring....

I'm all for development but the desal!!
It will rust out before water pumps through it.
And when all the brine floats down to Brighton / glenelg I can't wait to see the public backlash then when all the taxpayers are getting teamed with water rates etc

We need massive urban deveopment.
Parklands by Anzac hwy and goody road/sir lewis Cohen should be high rise apartments.
West terrace parklands should be roofed stadium.
Vic racecourse should have permanent grandstand and active racing.
City square needs to go up with big businesses and change skyline.
Need to make torrens / casino / AO alot like southbank@melbs.
Anzac hwy & port rd need townhouses on top of buildings.
South rd need north to south expressway.
Flinders med/uni needs tonsley train extended to them.
Southern expressway needs to be two way.
Vote for WLF next election :)

It's always amusing to read that we'll be getting a 'Federation Square' or 'Southbank' style precinct. Fed Square is an abomination IMHO. But I wish instead of making the proposed forecourt of the upgraded AO the central people's meeting point (a la Fed square) that they would overhaul the dilapidated Festival Theatre plaza. It hasn't had a lick of paint since Don Dunstan wore pink shorts.

They may do so, but Melbourne sucks to get around ( driving ) and is not my favourite place to visit.

agreed on what your saying to many people say the other party is complaining. Too many complaining people down there and thats another reason it doesnt get off the ground. If you believe that things get done in adelaide.....well explain to me why the adelaide oval is not sorted? why is the new hospital not starting?

takes 5 years for it to be approved (typical adelaide). takes 5 years to get the companies down to the site to start building . takes 5 years to build the thing...so in 15 years time there will be a redevelopment for adelaide oval and the new hospital will just start being built

I think you will find work hasn't started, the building work that is going on is the medical research centre adjacent the new hospital site... Just on the new hospital - without sounding like a pollie - it will bring a much improved product than doing up the existing dilapidated building... better patient care the emphasis and less private space to be used by doctors that may require an office for only a few hours per week... and with the Private/Public partnership the cost is bared less on the state than the traditional government project.

i have been saying that for years. This upgrade here and there for south road wont cope....needs a non stop freeway or toll road.
