A dog turned up where I went......once the bagpipes shut up he was fine

At the TTG service a young girl fainted and 5 minutes later an older lady hit the deck too...

So during the minutes silence there was a bit of commotion with regards to them, but apart from that it was very well observed even with a heap of kids around...

At our minutes silence.... All you could hear was magpies... An omen perhaps?

Yes, the Hilton one last year was poorly organised. Couldn't hear a thing. Being the 100th Anniversary they should've expected a crowd.

Went to Lobethal this morning. A good turn out and a really good service.

There's moments in time that children simply can't be controlled, what do you propose they do to stop a kid making noise?

Tell a 3 year old to "shoosh" and if they don't want to, they won't, they don't know the importance of the occasion and in all reality couldn't care less. All about education.

There were 2 young girls near me during the service who were occasionally chatting between themselves when Mike Butler was talking. When he called for the minutes silence their mother told them to be quiet and they did so accordingly.

The cases we've mentioned is a case of that particular parent not being able to control their kid at an important time.

I must have missed the chapter in my parenting book about keeping 3 year olds "under control".

I have had a couple of 3 years old once.... the good news is they grow up, learn right from wrong, and now I can proudly say wouldn't miss an Anzac Day service. Job done!

Don't know where you're getting 3 year old from, we don't know what age these kids were, it hasn't been mentioned.

Anyway these are individual scenarios with a family that are strangers to us, would you guys take your kids to a dawn service/have you taken them to a dawn service and if so how did they go with it?

Of course they grow up, my daughter is 3 now and another which is 1 and both are generally really well behaved kids. But I was at the local footy on Saturday and there was a minute silence...
Daughter was talking and I said, stop talking for a minute and explained in a very simple manner why we need to be quiet. She was was silent for maybe 15 seconds and asked "but why dad?"... Than I shooshed and than she thought it was a game.

My kids have come with me since they were quite young.... maybe 5 or so. They are now 21 & 18, and still come. I don't recall any behaviour problems with them, but maybe I was lucky, or have forgotten. Saw a bloke in our local supermarket in the weekend. Young bloke (probably 2 or 3) throwing a complete wobbly. Dad said ok mate I will leave you here and walked out. Kid screaming on the floor. Dad only just went out the door, and came more or less straight back. Kid kept going off. Sometimes there is not much you can do with a kid, who just doesn't want to be wherever you are.

Mine started coming at about 5 or 6, that's old enough to know when to shut up or not. I think it's great seeing people bring their kids along, kids are inquisitive beings and they'll soon be asking what and why about ANZAC Day, a great thing.

At the one I attended yesterday a little girl, probably about 18 months - 2 years old "Mum-mum-mum" and "ba - ba" ( pointing at a bird ) most of the way through the whole ceremony. Didn't bother me one bit, quite cute in fact and lightens what is other wise a very somber moment.

Then dont take them. Not rocket science.

If they don't know the importance of the occasion, why take them in the first place.

Because, even though they don't know what it's about it soaks into them, and becomes part of their psyche. One day they'll get it and all of that work you've done will result in kids like Corona's who keep the flame of respect alive.
You don't not take a kid to the footy because they don't understand it, why would you not take them to an Anzac Day service?

My eldest is nearly eight. She's come to two with me now. This year she asked several times in the lead-up if she could come.
I'm very proud of her. It is just another thing in our lives that keeps us close together.

If they don't know the importance of the occasion, why take them in the first place.

That's why. What better way for them to learn.

Would sooner kids attend and make a few noises at wrong times, than for the kids to not be there at all .. We owe it to those who sacrificed to make sure they are honoured, thanked and remembered for their sacrifices, for a long time to come.
