Yeah it is an interesting one wedgie, you can make cases for both disciplines. Swimmers still have to face the USA/european countries in the pool, they are competative in both track and pool, also 1 track gold equals how many pool medals, especially when won over 2/3 olympics? but can see your point.

Rubbish.

greg norman.

I don't think the Shark was overrated, no doubt he dropped a tournament or two (one in particular) that he probably should have gone on to win, but there's not much you can do about freak shots the likes of which we saw from Zoeller and Tway ... At the moment I would put names like Baddely and Scott on that list before him, they however still have the time on their side to rectify.

He's still a dual British Open winner, the Wimbledon equivalent, which along with the exposure he provided the game makes him a great imho.

well said CP....

Topsy you have no idea....he was the No. 1 player for years, what more do you want?

Dont know if Adam Scott can be even considered as overrated - He is currently No. 4 in the world!!!...but yes he does need to win a Major, in time.

Baddely maybe, but he has himself to blame there with all the self promotion - currently No. 95 in the world

Elliott got a ton the other week for the Redbacks.

I think if there was a forum - teammates who dob on their mates for playing up on tour, Elliott would be high on the list!!

Yeah, right you are, I was getting my Overrated Sports people and Insperational Sporting moments threads mixed up, my mistake.

Unlike "real" sports people you're only as good as the script writer/booker lets you be in pro wrestling though.

Not necessarily true Wedgie. Despite poor scripts and storylines Kurt Angle actually made John Cena look good a couple of times and that is no mean feat. Managed to put on a couple of pretty good matches despite everything from storyline and a crap opponent making it extremely difficult. That's just one example.

Interesting Reid (pardon the pun) in a recently released Ashes magazine that in the early 90s Ashes series when Bruce Reid was firing for a few tests. He took 13 for 140 in an Ashes test. A couple of former test cricketers reckon, that without his severe injuries Bruce Reid would have been in the top 10 Fast bowlers ever for Australia.

I think I was tryin to say I dont know if he was ever over-rated, but a bit unlucky with his body type and conditioning. Probably in todays cricket he may have been managed a bit better with rehab and training etc.
