So what your suggesting is that we each pay $10. Then Coopers get to put a banner ad on the site to slow it down, and then as reward we're all meant to go off and buy some of their beer???

If Coopers were serious about the SANFL, then they wouldn't have let Norwood run out on the park last Saturday!

Two seperate suggestions my friend, the $10 is for a private forum for those that wish to participate in that, the Banner ad would come under the area of corporate sponsorship for the entire board. The banner ad could be fitted under our logo fairly easily.

I think asking users to pay to use the forums is over the top!! come on, with all due respect but the site offers nothing of a tangible benefit apart from gossip, which you can hardly charge for.

The site admins need to spend time looking for s suitable sponsor or look at advertising to generate the income covering costs of running site, or continue to pay for it our their own pockets.

Where have site admin suggested charging for access to this site??? With respect it has been the people who think they dio get a tangible benfit out of it who want to contribute something to teh ongoing accessibility to this site given the e-traffic it handles each day....

People pay for gossip every day. Woman's Day, Who Weekly, The Advertiser...

I'm happy to chip in a few bucks maybe twice a year to keep this up and running, but if Wedgie has a bigger lens* next time I see him then I'll be suspiscious...

As Tassie has said it is we, the users, that have offered to contribute. As for the site offering nothing but 'gossip'...I think that is a rather unfair comment as whenever someone makes a statement about a player/team etc they are expected and asked to provide evidence to back-up their comments. The site is also a great source of stats and team/player info which would otherwise involve trawling many diferent sites/forums. On top of that there are those of us, especially the sainted Jimmy, who try to provide live scores for those who can't obtain them any other way (for whatever reason). On the whole I would say that this forum povides an extremely valuable resource for anyone interested in footy and the many other topics covered here and is well worth paying for.

Here endeth the lesson...I'll get of my soapbox now.. :)

Really?? there are plenty of community based forums which have community feedback and imput which are run not to different than this site, i.e Whirpool, Bigpond, online gaming communitees etc etc, they dont seem to be able to charge for a community forum use?

As I stated, I think the best way forward to cover costs is to look for sponsoship via maybe an ISP or other means, or look at selling advertising on the site.

I see this place as a community. Communities are based around helping each other out and contributing to the community in whatever way you can.

There are probably 3 main ways to contribute around here. Firstly, you can provide valuable comments about SANFL (or whatever forum you choose to be involved with). Secondly you could moderate a forum (generally speaking you would need to do the first one before being asked). Lastly, you can contribute financially to the upkeep of the site.

If you are unprepared to contribute to your community then perhaps it isn’t your community?

Another idea

$10 fee

$5 goes to site maintenance
$5 goes to a footy tipping pool

100 people $500 to the site, $500 footy tipping comp.

If its the difference between keeping the site running or having to go back to the Advertiser to see what is going on, I'll take a weekly auto deduction out of my pay thanks.

Since I found this site I have not had to waste my $2 buying a paper that doesn't tell me anything.

Of course it would be great if it was free but these things cost money (and a lot of time I bet) so if the admin need to set up a financial members only section I have no problems with that.

Any small profit they make should go to the Administrators IMO because they must do a fair bit of unpaid work just to keep this thing running.

You raised a good point there JTC.

I will put my money where my mouth is, and I will sponsor the cost of the site, subject to 2 conditions, which can be discussed privately with the current admins. There ya go!

I hope that's a poor attempt at humour otherwise it's even more reason why the users as a whole should contribute. No individual member should be able to pay to impose their conditions on the forum. If I am wrong and that is not your intention then kindly elaborate.

Personnally Wedgie I dunno why you don't go commercial. Advertisements don't have to be intrusive and it would be less work that collecting from members but I've had a lot of fun on this site and would be happy to pay a reasonable subscription.

what about SANFL clubs being an option for sponsorship????......

or even the SANFL itself???

i think the ADVERTISER should pay because we 'hear it first' on here and then the advertiser puts it in a few days later....

That is a fantastic gesture Start. $1,500 is no small amount to divi up for sponsoring the sight and I take my hat off to you.
Obviously, you say subject to 2 conditions, and I hope that Wedgie and Diss both feel those conditions are acceptable.
