There is no such thing as HECS anymore. It's been rebranded as HELP (Higher Education Loan Programme).

With Open Uni you can put all the units onto this (even if you're not enrolled into the course/degree), so you don't have to fork out the cash up front. Undergraduate unit costs range from $750 - $1400 per unit. So it adds up quickly.

Best thing to do is enrol in units that are part of the course (degree) you wish to do and then once you've done enough (I think it's 4 as previously mentioned) you can apply to be accepted into the course.

PM if you've got any questions, I have just finished my Bachelor of Accounting through Open Uni.

Then why is it called HECS-HELP?

•The Higher Education Contribution Scheme (HECS), as HELP was first known, was introduced in 1989, and the scheme is still commonly referred to as ‘HECS’ and debts as ‘HECS debts’.

•In 2003, there were major reforms to higher education, including significant changes to HECS. These reforms were legislated by the Higher Education Support Act 2003 and came into effect in 2005. Additional loan types were added and the program was renamed the Higher Education Loan Program (HELP). HECS was absorbed into HELP and is now referred to as HECS-HELP. The Government also extended the income contingent loan schemes to domestic students paying full fees (FEE-HELP) and for those studying overseas for one or two semesters (OS-HELP).

Great, yet another way I can't get home tonight:

https://www.police.sa.gov.au/sa-police-news-assets/traffic/traffic-warning-for-gilles-plains

This is about 60m away from my old place.

Knowing my luck, it's underwater :?

nope.

NFI why, considering it's location.

I've just looked at the traffic website.

There is literally no physical way I can get home tonight without experiencing lengthy delays/roadworks/road closures.

This gives me the shits even more.

Not a great day for our roads today. Add in the Clipsal delays and as well as the race to the end of financial year council spends on roadworks and well good luck adelaide.

They should be strung by a rope and used as live bait to train lions.

I reckon we used to have a few trainers (or owners) on SAFooty at one stage - better not have been any of them.

Don't panic, I have it on good word they only use penguins in SA. ;)

I've avoided thinking about it too much but with the requirement for teachers to have a Masters degree by about 2020 I think it is, a lot of teachers at my school started theirs this year or last year. I work in special ed so what exactly I'll do will be based on that

My girlfriend got hit by this aswell FC trying to get home from work as it's just down the road from her house. Just got home from footy training to read her message about it, usually it takes her less than 5 minutes to get home instead it took her half an hour today. She said the traffic was banked up all along North East Road while Lyons Road was shut off, sounded like a real headf**k during peak hour traffic.
