It has always implied inferiority due to being muscle-bound and stupid, and is still used that way.

I also think is Goodes had Friday night over he might not have been quite to insistent or demonstrative in the moment.

Err? He pointed her out immediately & wanted the world to know, he was very demonstrative. Yes, I think the word was used, she seemed somewhat surprised that she was the centre of attention, if it wasn't for the Andrew Symonds "monkey" debacle many Australians would be none the wiser.

Did she racially vilify Goodes? Yes.
Do I think the girl said it to deliberately racially vilify Goodes? No.
Was Goodes' handling of the situation satisfactory and warranted? Yes.

So was the monkey comment on Symonds...If she didn;t get pulled up on it, she would continue to do it. It's talked about enough in society today to know it's not on.
It's unacceptable imo. If my daughter did the same thing i would be disgusted! And this heat of the moment excuse people are saying in her defence is ridiculous.

My point is that i don't think many 13 year old's would realize the word were "racist", derogatory or insulting yes.

I described a footballer on radio recently as "like a gorilla from the Amazon".
He is white but does strongly resemble a gorilla-like build, albeit with less hair.
Not taking sides in the debate, just saying I did this very thing.
