Every ones opinion here - With the latest road toll (yes this is a QLD issue) from our police, they want to lower the speed limit or leeway i.e. doing 99 in a 90 zone here you don't get done for speeding, or 109 in a 100 zone you don't get a fine. They want to reduce that to something like doing 93 in a 90 zone you will get done for speeding.
My question is, does lowering the speed limit save lives? does doing 92 in a 90 zone as an example cause an accident and maybe another death? being that 1 out of every 5 deaths on the roads is caused be speeding. Is doing 92 in a 90 zone excessive speeding and putting others at risk? Do police not see that maybe people behind the wheel are not experienced enough to drive , like sitting in the right hand lane under the speed limit , they don't think this causes accidents? People having the drivers chair so close to the steering wheel that they are basically lying on the steering wheel, does this not cause accidents or deaths?People driving 20kms UNDER the speed limit might be an issue?
I have been told that in Germany the auto bahn there is open speed limit which I knew, but they have done a study that doing 93 in a 90 zone as an example DOES NOT increase the road toll, it comes down to if you can handle that speed, not that you are doing 3kms over the speed limit. They say if you are not experienced to do say 100 in a 90 zone then you are more at risk to someone who can control that speed more(example here)Someone doing 100 in a 90 zone who can handle that is far more safer than someone who is doing 100 in a 90 zone that can not control it, that's what I have heard
Its an interesting issue
