Basically it been a bit weepy and I’ve had some blurry vision.

Yesterday I was watching my vets team play cricket. I was out with a crook bat. I helped out on the score book. As the day went on I was struggling at times to pick up players taking catches etc.

We got on the gas after the game, so I went to work bleary eyed and put down to the post game bevies.

Driving around today I noticed I could see much out of my left eye looking down.

Called in my optometrist on the way home. Described the problem and he said come straight through.

Diagnosis a partially detached retina. You need emergency surgery before it fully detaches. He said don’t drive as your vision is impaired.

Currently in a taxi heading the the ear and eye hospital. Going to be a long night I think!

All the best mate, the ole peepers are a couple of pretty handy assets to keep working.

Good luck, I’m sure the nurses will love it.

I'm tipping you didn't see that coming. There are already too many one eyed Hawthorn people on here...

Hope it all goes well. My next door neighbor had a similar episode last year and the surgery had her back on track in no time.

Do you only go see your vet when you're hanging out with your sick bat?
He might start to feel used.

Ok so I’m in the waiting area of the hospital where the surgery happens. Spoke to the surgeon it’s about a 40 minute procedure. They will inject stuff into my eye, which sounds like fun, then repair the scar and re attach the retina by laser surgery. I’m awake for this by the way! But sedated. I’m most worried about moving or flinching at the wrong time.

I’ve seen people who have already had their surgery either yesterday or this morning. Spoke to one bloke he said it was pretty straight forward and not to worry. Other than wearing an eye patch he was fine.

So I’m now considering either getting a parrot or a Collingwood membership.

No. More a reference to being one eyed.

Was thinking of that Monty Python sketch where John Cleese’s character says he is planning an assault on the twin peaks of Kilimanjaro!

Pretty much genetics. History of eye issues, cataracts etc in the family. My left eye also has a stigmatism, meaning it’s a slightly odd shape. That in turn puts some pressure on the retina.. at least that’s what I took away from what the surgeon said.
