Thanks JAS. I may be in the same boat as you, in that I probably agree with some of their stuff.
Psyber, I have tasted Emu. Maybe I got a bad cut but it came from an Indian doctor who passed it on to my Japanese family. Strewth it tasted like crap! We ended up giving it to the dog! I have always loved 'roo though. Perhaps I should try some Emu next time I am in Oz, I might get a better sample.
Resources may be a consequence of overpopulation, but it is probably easier to develop a more manageable subsistence programme than go on a huge cull.
Whatever practices are economically viable seems to be the criteria for what is necessary. There were stuff ups in the past, not just by mixing animal protein in with feed, but also slush farming and whatever other fix they come up with for keeping so many cows alive. I agree though, that to a mind unmotivated by greed the methods employed were unecessary, but then greed is responsible for the majority of the world's ills at the moment.
Cities are bad for the environment, but rural activity is expanding at a greater rate, and I agree with your second last point. But the reality is that we have this amount of people on Earth and it just isn't viable to continue with the wasteful practices of the past. As much as I love beef, I have to admit that keeping as much cattle as we do is depriving our planet of precious resources that should be used more effectively. For as long as we are overpopulated, we are going to need to share a little bit better, or kill off the have nots (quickly in war or slowly by apathy) so that we can maintain our own luxuries..... there's that greed again.
Cities in deserts sounds like a good theory, I'll need to see your blueprints to understand if it will all work or not.

I'm gonna sit back, crack the top off a Pale Ale, and watch the Double Blues prevail
