A YOUNG Elizabeth boy had a terrifying near-death ordeal amidst raging storms and heavy rain across the state tonight.
The boy staggered into Elizabeth Police Station just after 8pm last night dishevelled, wet and cold and suffering from shock and minor injuries.
He told police that he had fallen into a creek running through Argana Park in Elizabeth Downs, and been swept away by the fast-flowing current.
He was unable to pull himself from the waters, and was swept along for a terrifying two kilometres before finally hauling himself from the frigid waters near Winterslow Bridge on Winterslow Rd.
He walked to nearby Elizabeth Police Station and presented himself to astonished police before being rushed in an ambulance to Lyell McEwin Hospital.
While the weather bureau has cancelled the urgent warnings it issued for the Adelaide region earlier this afternoon, warnings are still in place for the South East.
Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds in excess of 90 km/h in the warning area this evening. Large hailstones are also possible. Locations which may be affected include Mount Gambier, Naracoorte, Bordertown and Lucindale.
The bureau advises that rain is likely to return to Adelaide later tonight as stormy weather which is current lashing the Eyre Peninsula moves over the city. Rain will continue in the agricultural districts for at least 24 hours.
