The 'ray could have hit Steve Irwin anywhere and it would have been through his heart.

His heart was huge.

its unbeleiveable the airplay he is getting he had that much of an effect on ppl all over the world...its just hitting home, just as much if not more than hooksey and others...

i feel that, altho it is getting played so much here, that if i was back home, it would crush me to see the outpouring of emotion and it would get to me much much more....

its starting to almost sink in and i dont think it will for a few more days....

he was loved dearly and the things ppl say, its amazing to know he was just as enthusiastic in life as he was on tv....

respect

RIP

Pathetic.

Hang on a second, before you go and form a lynch mob, maybe to take the time to read her article straight from the horse's (and I do mean horse) mouth.

Mean spirited, sure. But makes more than a few valid points I reckon.

Some "valid" points - of course. But the woman lacks, and always has lacked, understanding and tact.
I heard her on the radio "defending" her comments this morning.

"Many australians, probably millions, are embarassed of Steve Irwin"

"The English press are calling it Australia's Diana - surely you're embarassed at that"

No, not really.
It's open for debate - but I'm not "embarassed" Germain.

Steve has never done anything wrong - just has done what he loved. Given away millions, bought up land around the world for "conservation", educated Australia and the world about nature - and done 10 times more for advertising Australia than anyone else in history, including Hoges.

Princess Diana, a very genuine and giving person, used her "given" stature to give to charity, and raise awareness. I have nothing against Diana at all, as much as I find the situation her and Charles were in unsettling (she died in the car with .. her lover?).

Germain Greer is a hypocritical self-righteous woman. Who else would bag Big Brother, calling it "the same is peeking through your keyhole at a child's room" and then go on to be a housemate on Celebrity Big Brother.

In case you haven't seen in - check out Andrew Denton's interview from mid 2003 on Enough Rope with Steve. Brings a tear to your eye.

(They replayed it Monday just gone I think).

Greer was so outraged by Irwin's actions that she ranted and raved against him for years.

Sorry, what's that? You don't remember? That's funny. Because neither do I.

Greer cowardly waited until the man was dead and could not defend himself before sounding off, knowing full well it would make headlines around the world and get her snaggle-toothed mug on television again.

These days, Germaine Greer is a fame whore and little else.

Her anger toward him seems in part to be based on the fact that Steve handled many animals that in her view, didn't need to be handled (ie, picked up and shown to the camera or whatever), and therefore the animals here placed under stress. If thats her only gripe with the man, then she's a stupid mole with no perspective on anything. The fact is, with Steve doing what he did, he raised so much awareness for animals, the environment they live in, and also for Australias identity on a global scale, not to mention millions and millions of dollars for Australia, different zoos, countless charities, and also gave people overseas a really positive view of Australia. Just the outpouring of emotion seen over the last few days shows how important he was to our country. I dont even think something like Australia getting the shit bombed out of it would command as much air time in foreign media as Steves death has.

Funny thing is I didn't even know Germaine Greer was "Australian" until I read some of the stuff she has said over the last few days. It makes me feel ashamed that Australian and her name can in any way go together. She'd obviously be a British citizen now, but is there a way we can revoke any Australian status she may still have? The fact she's a femminist is reason enough for me to hate her, but with what she's said, not just about Steve, but other previous Australia bashings she has done, makes me wish she was no longer on the face of this earth. And theres very few peole in the world I think that of.

Sorry zipzap, but that article made me hate the mole even more.

A few things from the article:

"Greer said she had "not much sympathy" for the naturalist if he was grappling with the stingray that killed him on the Great Barrier Reef."

The video footage has proven that not to be the case. Its not like Steve would see a stingray swimming by and just jump on it.

"The crocodile would rather have been anywhere else and the chicken had a grim life too, but that's entertainment at Australia Zoo."

Trust her to bring that up again. Im sure the crocodile was pretty happy being fed. Thats what happens in zoos, aminals get fed. Mostly by hand too. The fact that Steve had Bob there may have seemed dangerous, but if Steve just had his other hand up there, no one would have said anything because there would have been no danger. The kid never got within two meters of the croc, which would have gotten him before the kid.

"That sort of self-delusion is what it takes to be a real Aussie larrikin," Greer said.

She really has something against Australia, Australians, and our way of life. For that she can **** off.

"There was no habitat, no matter how fragile or finely balanced, that Irwin hesitated to barge into, trumpeting his wonder and amazement to the skies."

So Steves going to spend his life and millions and millions of dollars preserving animals habitats, and raising awareness, just to go in somewhere half cocked, yell crikey, and crush everything in it? She must be deluded.

"There was not an animal he was not prepared to manhandle."

Manhandle? Thats a bit misguided! Watch a few episodes of his show and you'll see that most of the animals he manhandled were either in danger of being killed or endangering humans, had a chip implanted in them to monitor their behaviour, or had medical treatment done on them.

"The animal world has finally taken its revenge on Irwin, but probably not before a whole generation of kids in shorts seven sizes too small has learned to shout in the ears of animals with hearing ten times more acute than theirs, determined to become millionaire animal-loving zoo-owners in their turn."

So Steve did it for the money did he? Or people will copy him just for the money? She might be like that, given the headline seeking bullshit we have to put up with from her, but normal people would understand that if you dont have half the passion that Steve had, you'd get killed in the first 6 months of doing the job.

Germaine Greer, go die quietly in the corner so we dont have to put up with your anti-Australian sentiments any more.
