You can argue he has been through testing ect to keep his license, however biologically at 75 no one is able to make the decisions they were doing even 5-8 years earlier and by no way would they be safe enough to drive a heavy vehicle of that size for such a long distance. I’d be interested to see how common this is?

I tend to agree about the road train - I don't think I'd try that - but you can't be totally arbitrary about age.

I'm still driving my Renault Megane RS 265 at age 80. It is a 6 speed manual and does 0-100 in 6.5 seconds - faster if I switch to "race mode" but I rarely use that. My wife (aged 74) and I just recently drove a Kia Sportage diesel manual around Ireland too. And my mother-in-law is still running a yacht at the Royal Yacht Squadron at 92.

There is a lot of variation to ageing. I went to an event with my graduating year on medicine recently. I'm fit and healthy and have no current illness or disability and still have brown hair while another guy my age was bald, shaky, and in a wheel chair.

Completely understand your point and I’m not going to quiz your back ground, however you aren’t driving that car everyday 100’s of kms a day as a job - Even then it’s not the same as driving a road train (As you mentioned) . I just personally believe that no one at that age should be driving a road train long distances whilst doing shift work. Whilst you can’t prejudge, there is no way even the fittest 75 year olds are able to concentrate religiously day in, day out behind the wheel of a vehicle like that and make critical decisions continuously. It’s easy to say it now as I said, I was just genuinely shocked and I get that it’s in people’s blood.

I agree with that.

The facts will come out if and when the accused is prosecuted; the impact to the victims should heavily outweigh any (self inflicted) impact to the accused.

Pets.
Cat had cancer in the eye last year, so had the eye ball removed. All good. Now just diagnosed with another cancer on the jaw. 2 years old...

Sorry to hear that mate. I'd be a wreck if our pupper went through that.

Thanks mate. Makes it worse was that our last cat had cancer in the same spot on the jaw. What are the odds...

ok some sort of good news. The cancer can be removed from the jaw, and the vet seems to think this type of cancer is not likely to spread. Doesnt answer why a cat of 2 years old would have had an eye melanoma and a masked cell cancer which are both more towards a 10 year old cat.
Anyway for a (small...) fee we get more time with him.

Death of a police officer at Port Adelaide station, no suspicious circumstances.

It’s been a tough few weeks for SAPOL.

I think the support police get is atrocious. The fact they have a hotline which they can only call at certain times and not a physical person in each station is a disgrace. Thoughts are with her family and friends.

Genuine question.

Is depression, mental illness, etc far more prevalent these days or is it just more out in the open and acknowledged rather than swept under the carpet?

Certainly the latter and only for the better IMO.

However, only recently have I discussed the resilience the "younger" people today seem to possess, not saying there's a link between clinical depression / mental illness and intestinal fortitude but the line is sometimes blurred by those who are finding their way in the modern world. I don't envy the millenials one bit.

That’s an interesting point.

Certainly the old days where we were all told to shut up and suck it up didn’t help, but have we gone too far the other way?

Don’t know, but the world seems much more complicated than it used to be.

IMO opinion no, we haven't, the severity of the root causes has though I think.

Be open and honest and talk to people when you're struggling, if the cafe is out of almond milk just get on with it.

Absolutely it is. Imagine being 23, trying to save for a house, find a life partner, navigating the social landscape? No thanks.
