Yes, I went there a year or so ago so still going. Brilliant looking church - I wasn't expecting something like that when we turned off the main road...

Flinders Ranges is probably the most magnificent tourism spot in SA IMO. If you go there go to the Prairie Hotel in Parachilna for the Aussiest Aussie menu I've ever seen. I had a Feral mixed grill consisting of Emu, Kangaroo and Camel - it's all good!

Aerie...just had a look at the Prairie's website and would certainly consider a visit...love the sound of that Feral grill...even the room rates look pretty good so might be worth an overnight trip as I'd be relying on public transport (assume there would be a bus service that would pass through :? )

Depending on how much time you've got, it's certainly worth a visit, but you'll probably need at least 3 days if you head to Flinders Ranges. It's a fair drive and a fair bit to see that requires traveling - but the area is well supported with organised tours. You'll have to start up another thread suggesting places to visit! Kangaroo Island, bottom end of Yorke Peninsula, Fleurieu Peninsula, Thebarton Oval - all great spots!

Aerie...I'm planning on doing a 'things to do and see' list nearer the time  The trip is still anything up to a couple of years away. Only really started this thread to stop the FUIC thread going way off topic...but I couldn't be happier with the response...tons of stuff I'd never heard of and that doesn't appear in the Lonely Planet guide (yes I got one, told you I start planning well ahead) and it's never too early to make lists

JAS, can definitely second the Paralchina pub - great Aussie tucker!
As for icecreams, yes, there is no going past Golden North Giant Twins.
Prices Bakery also make about the best pies, pasties etc you will ever find.
If you are going to the Flinders, make sure you see a guy named Talc Alf - a true South Aussie icon in his own right.
Will give you a tour of Sevenhill. It is run by the same priests who run the College I teach at.
Cheers

Just trying to give JAS an idea.

What about Fruit Loops. Used to eat them straight from the box.

And Cheese Twisties. I remember that you used to get a plastic badge of one of the SANFL clubs in each packet. They did a round one and an oval one.

Golden North honey ice cream is one of my favourites. I also recommend lunch at the Prairie at Parachilna.
A cabin at Rawnsley's Bluff and a hired 4WD may be the best way to go to see the Flinders.

The Old Willows Brewery Restaurant in Quorn serves a lot of Aussie food, including Kangaroo testicles.

A meal in the front bar of the Earl of Leicster accompanied by a few of the many imported beers your probably familiar with. Biggest meals around with a great atmosphere. My favourite suburban pub....
