going out and eating at pubs is the biggest waste of money you can imagine. Would rather eat out way less often, but go to a nice restaurant instead

For sure, it astounds me when you play $20+ for a steak that you could've perfected yourself for about $7 at home.

$20 steak is rarely worth paying for, but $40 steak usually is...

Especially at a pub where the chef is just trying to get the meals out as quick as possible in between durries. Most patrons are half cut and when you ask them "how was your steak" they always reply "Yeah mate, done the job".

Im of the mindset that we should get something really nice to eat a couple of nights a week, and the others we should just eat to get nourishment. That way when we do go out, we have more money to spend and enjoy ourselves. This view is not necessarily shared throughout the household.

I have a cooked meal every night, I have my 2 kids with me 4 nights a week and I'm by myself Monday, Tuesdays & Thursdays, I'll skimp on my lunches to make sure that I can eat well in the evening, we have a lot of various stir-fry's so I can chuck a heap of vegies in.
I do pick the right time to go into Woolies though to grab their reduced meat specials as we like to have a good steak a couple of times a week, I've scored pretty well there through incorrect labeling aswell.

I go to the butcher once a fortnight and load the freezer up. For two weeks of meals, it costs me roughly $60. Thats including a couple of scotchies, which are the most expensive buy.

Go out maybe once of twice a week for a meal.

we use the butcher at the plaza near woolworths and do the same thing

I rate that butcher, but if anyone has any better butches let me know
may give them a crack, I live in north gate so around that area would be preferred.

We've got Gawler River Cattle Co on Old Port Rd right near us, plus the small butcher on Bower Rd is good for the odd occasion we need a top up.

The other week to get to the $10 Eftpos minimum there I had to get 6 sausages, 4 rissoles and 4 beef skewers. Good value.

Springfields have been around for YEARS.(Although I think they're called something else now) My ex was a butcher there when they were still upstairs across from Target.

For years I used to buy from Tranmere meats on Reid Avenue. I don't know if he still owns it though

From a food perspective, perhaps.

From an atmosphere perspective, sitting in the front bar having a feed, a few beers, a bit of banter and a couple bets is right up my alley.

I love food, and eating out at nice places but absolutely love a parmy from the front bar.

That's true. But having a night at the pub is different to going there on a Tuesday night just for a feed etc

Gawler River Cattle have a shop near Target in Sefton, they have decent specials, the one at Mawson Lakes has a great range of chicken schnitty's at a decent price.

I go to Gawler River Cattle Co. at Angle Vale. I've never been disappointed with their meats or their service.

Well worth the journey, huge shop, their variety of chicken marinades is exceptional along with their flavoured snags.

I used to go to the Angle Vale one when I lived at Munno. It is good, but I rate the Old Port Rd one better now.

Not a fan of any of the Gawler River stuff, JD on Bower Road is good quality though.

My preference is Baa Moo Oink on Rowells Road near Flinders Park Footy Club. The best in the West IMHO.

Correct, one of which is right next to my work. The staff there are always friendly, and their steaks are mouth watering.

The Angus rumps are awesome. $17 a kilo and the steak would cost you $15-$20. And it is as good as some much better cuts that I have had. Usually at home I'll cut it into 4!

Wasn't Bower Road a Baa Moo Oink as well once upon a time?
