I reckon if you're the one forking out the money, buy the car YOU want and stuff what features the next owner might desire, especially when they're too stingy to buy a new one themselves!

sorry to say its the truth. I bought a new car 2 years ago now nearly and i want to sell it. Worth $38,000 new, its done 35,000. I am getting offers for $21,000 as a maximum both privately and car yard. NOTHING wrong with it.

at 22.5% depreciation per annum, keep the car for about 5 years maximum, you off-set your re-sale loss against the depreciation. all cars depreciate rapidly once out of the showroom, surely you already knew that?

I just made $8k end of lease profit on a commodore I bought brand new. Planning the same on a subaru I just bought. Approx 20% discount beats the on road depreciation.

Both had done about 160,000 Km when their transmissions packed it in, and they were both developing electrical problems
My Audi S2 is 17 years old and in good nick, except the clutch just went - at 165,000 km.
I intend to fix it and keep it - but it is a special case.
I used to turn over my business cars about every 4 years in the days when I was able to 100% deduct them and was paying a high tax rate.
