He has written to him asking for the end of the Medi hotels in its current form. Steve has cracked the shits a bit.

About moving medi hotels either out in the sticks or using remote centres like Woomera.
Absolutely clueless

Not once did Malinauskas suggest moving them out to the sticks or to detention center type set ups. Marshall was deliberately being misleading there

He suggested the CBD may not be the best option and local experts agree with him.
Darwin for eg do it 29kms out of town and it seems to be working better there.
He wrote a letter to Marshall suggesting a review of the current set up and I'd be surprised if Marshall wasn't doing that anyway.

Marshall just trying to deflect .

It works for Darwin because a) they already have facilities there and b) they are taking in close to stuff all international travellers.
It’s logistically not possible in SA or other states

Expert epidemiologists have said exactly this. Marshall doing well to deflect from the fact it is a Federal govt responsibility that has been totally handballed.

There's plenty of facilities outside of the CBD that can be looked at and experts in biostatistics and epidemiology agree with him.
The former secretary of the Commonwealth Health Department also suggested a national facility held in reserve should be looked at.
Doesn't hurt to look at them at then and review the current situation, even if its just to improve how it's handled in the future, be incompetent not to.

The experts may recommend that but they aren’t the ones who have to foot the bill or run the logistics.
Of course it would be better but where, how and at what cost?
It’s surely much better to improve hygiene methods

Where are these facilities that have 600 beds per week that aren’t in the CBD?
There was a recent article stating that something like 30% of positive cases in Victoria were health workers so there is always a chance the virus will get out.

Woodside barracks used to have 3000 beds.
If they could build places like that over 50 years ago I'm sure the technology to do it might still be there.

Marshall and Spurrier have both stated that the quarantining of returning Aussies in Medi Hotels is high risk. They have also requested flights into Adelaide be suspended. It is also clear that SA's gold star is a little tarnished and we haven't implemented some of the key learnings from what happened in Victoria. Malinauskas is entitled to call for a suspension of the medi hotel program until they get it right. Marshall and Malinauskas are pretty well aligned on this issue.

Of course it’s high risk I just think that no system will be perfect no matter what.
The best system would be a purpose built facility with medical onsite and the staff to live on site and then undertake quarantine themselves but it’s very, very hard logistically to make this happen

We shouldn’t have pi$$ed the Chinese off. They could have helped us. Mind you they would have wanted the Gold Coast in return
