From todays Advertiser,
This will also hurt Mitsubishi and Ford, but probablly Holden the worst as they are just getting the new model up and running and probably wont have as big a stockpile of completed cars as the other manufacturers.

Parts shortage hits Commodore
BRYAN LITTLELY
August 19, 2006

HOLDEN may be able to produce its new VE Commodore at Elizabeth for only one day next week as stocks of 140 different parts for the car run low. In what company spokesman Jason Laird yesterday said was "a serious concern at the worst possible time", Melbourne components maker Ajax put Commodore production under a cloud when 189 workers were stood down.

It comes after administrator PriceWaterhouseCoopers failed to finalise a rescue deal with Ajax customers.

At Holden's Elizabeth plant, about 4000 production workers are expected to hear by Monday the effect of the interruption.

"We know we can start production next week. We don't know how long we can continue," Mr Laird said.

The new VE Commodore - the product of a $1 billion development program by Holden - hit showroom floors on Monday. Production of the car at Elizabeth was expected to soon be ramped up to 600 cars a day.

Ajax Fasteners workers stand to lose hundreds of thousands of dollars in entitlements after the business went into administration on August 8.

Joe Katona, 69, has been with Ajax for 36 years and stands to lose more than $100,000 in entitlements if the company goes into liquidation.

"You work here so many years, you put your guts into it and you have to walk away. It isn't right," Mr Katona said.

My first car was a Holden, Peter Brock was my favourite driver and I used to own a HRT jacket.

From the mouth of my daughter:

"Why did they make the new Commodore look like a small Falcon?"

I had no answer for her. :?
