Most of the Hills rainfall is caught in reservoirs to service the Adelaide's requirements.

But there is another perspective. There are some who would say that capture and storage of water is a waste, and a better use of it would be to allow all water to flow to its natural destination, thereby maintaining ecological integrity of the water resource and in turn ecological function and maintenance of a complete and complex suite of ecological services from which humans rely. This is very much a minority opinion that is at the far left of the political, social and scientific spectrum but one that is out there none the less. For the record, that is certainly not my view, unless of course we are taliking about Queensland who should release all water to it's downstream counterparts ;)

5 million people would indeed be a tragedy, 5 million Queenslanders - meh.

Just a minor correction there Bully; you don't pay taxes on the water that falls on the ground, you pay for your use of the water from the tap, as do South Australians. The price that is charged is based upon the cost to get the water to your tap + profit as the water companies are generally private enterprises. Rainfall is not taxed. The water flowing down rivers and streams is not taxed. there is only a charge when people choose to extract that water to use either commercially or domestically.

Got word in today at work that Lake Eyre is officially dry as a nuns nasty.

Queensland flooded this year - the lake should be as full as a goog.

Apologies. I also didn't get the joke.
Problem is, you post so much dumb stuff it's hard to understand if it's actually a joke or a misguided thought which needs correction.
Silly, silly South Australians! Actually I've lived overseas for over 12 years but I'm very careful about lecturing my home town about what I think is right. A few years over the border or across an ocean, makes me no better than anyone else.

all we would like is a portion of the deluges that happen annually in QLD to be diverted to us, to help the ailing wetlands & majestic River Red Gums.
