Louis' Kitchen and Bar at the old Wheatsheaf in Gawler East has closed the doors for good :(
Unfortunately family health issues have meant that Louis and Meg can no longer keep it going.

Very sad - it was awesome food.
I love 'Food and Stuff'. It's where I buy all of my food. And most of my stuff.

Couple of interstate reviews - Northern Territory, Alice Springs.

Last night Todd Tavern - walked in at 7pm and a cop was just clocking on for car park duty.... Ordered a Porterhouse steak medium rare with surf and turf sauce. Came to the table with garlic cream sauce and prawns only (no biggie as that is how I cook it at home) let down with the cooking of the steak as it arrived as well done not as I ordered. Salad bar limited for choice with a potato, pasta, coleslaw and lettuce/tomato options. $23 for the steak & $5 for surf & turf 6/10.

Tonight, Alice Springs Golf Club - went 400 gram T-Bone with creamy mustard sauce medium rare again. Chef was spot on with this one cooked to perfection, drizzle of wholegrain sauce on the steak only and a fresh salad on the side. $29 for the lot & 8.5/10.

Tomorrow night Daly Waters...not going to be cheap!

Went to the Lighthouse Inn at the Port again on Friday night.

Found out they are changing owners in the next couple of days. Hopefully they keep the craft beers the current owner makes himself.

When I asked, they said they'd have to work out a deal with him. If not, I might just buy from the source.

We tried the alcoholic sarsparilla and the ginger beer. Both are amazing. Would be great to sit out the front on a summers arvo and smash 10-12 of the sars.

They mucked up my topping on my schnitty, but we like the place so much that it didnt really matter in the end. They comped some drinks and knocked some price off the meals to make up for it.

1 x Schnitty with "mystery" topping
1 x Salt n Pepper Squid
2 x alcoholic Sarsparillas
2 x alcoholic Ginger Beers
1 x Hahn Super Dry
1 x Cheese and Mustard bread
and all you can eat buffet to die for.

Total = $45.00

Plus the other patrons are mostly senior citizens, which I like. Don't like the riff raff.

Even with the wrong schnitty coming out, they get another 9/10.

The Cremorne - Unley Road.

Really nicely upgraded pub, beer garden and big TV ( mandatory in pub reno's nowadays ) is nice without being outstanding. A couple of outstanding staffers on hand though.

4 of us ( 2 couples ) shared a plate, basically a plate of meat.

YODER SMOKER 1500 MEAT BOARD
with roasted half chicken, pulled 8hr smoked pork shoulder, 10hr smoked brisket,
pork spare ribs, smoked duck croquettes, Cremorne coleslaw, dipping sauces, supa
crunch chips & pull apart loaf $50

Now, luckily I'd had a late breakfast as the 4 of us shared this and it would really be good for two. The Pulled Port shoulder and the smoked brisket were absolutely top notch. Melt in the mouth.

So, hard to rate the one "meal" we had, but for what it was I'd give it an 8/10.

Squire beers ( pints ) were $8.50. Mrs and friend had 3 ( they were in great nick ) bottles of Rockford Alicante between them, $32 each. ( About $25-30 in bottle shops )

In summary - worth a visit.
PAFC. Forever.

LOOK OUT, WE'RE COMING!

A Hereford Beefstouw on Hutt Street.

Worst restaurant experience in my life.

My order was forgotten, then tried to give me the 400g when I ordered 500g, then convinced me it was the 500g only to cut in and find it was well done when ordered medium. No butter supplied when I ordered garlic butter. I sent it back only for the chef to send it back to me in quarters declaring it was infact medium, because there was a bout a 20 cent coin size of pink in the middle of the steak. I told them they are kidding themselves and it was at this point when the whole table chimed in and said fix the @##$%ing steak. Then normal butter given when I said it should be garlic butter. Had to wait another 30 minutes while everyone else had finished for another overcooked steak and soggy fries.

Most overpriced, poorly serviced restaurant I have ever been too.

1/10 for everything.

There is nothing more disappointing than going to a proper steak place and getting a crap steak. I can almost forgive it at a pub, but if you market yourself on doing a steak then you bloody better be able to do a steak

Table of 20 people, two of us got stuffed up with forgotten meals, and about half had their steaks overcoooked. No offer to discount bill or complimentary drink. Waiters did not offer to fill wine or ask if we neede more drinks. Shocking mate.

Sounds like he told them when he ordered. They most likely said, "oh, one of those f**kwits! F**k his order up boys!"

Reillys Wines Cellar Door and Restaurant at Mintaro

Called in there on Sat for some wine tasting and had wisely pre-booked for Lunch.

Nice "cool" day in the Clare Valley so I had the potato and bacon chowder, the missus mushroom rissoto balls in a ragut (the daily specials). Both absolutely sensational. We both wanted more but after our full buffet breakfast at the Novetel Barossa we both didn't want to over indulge.

Our lunches, two wines and two coffees came to $45.

People on the table next to us had ordered an entree and main of Osso Bucco which looked and smelt devine

Our food was 9/10

The wine tasting was sensational before hand. Highly recommed the 2013 Reillys Shiraz and the Missus made me purchase two bottles of their Pinot Noir. Their staff are really friendly and helpful. Service was first class.

Do yourselves a favour get up there, the Clare Valley is sensational in winter.

Because I'm sure the reviews on here would be what all good restaurants would want to make a good impression of, we're the golden fist of food critics.
