Hey now, watches are my thing, but I just said not so long ago I have no idea about cologne.

I know nothing about cars, beer and all manner of things that you probably know a heck of a lot about.

Wore Seiko's before that.

I am hoping to buy a Hamilton in the US in November. Then a Breitling Navitimer if I get engaged.

I bought myself a "TW Steel" about 4 months ago.

Looking at your above list, safe to assume this is a "hipster brand".

Another thing to add to my growing list of poor investments

What type of movement? A quick google says the Quartz use a Japanese Miyota which is very good. The Ronda movements on the Automatics is a mid range mass produced Swiss. Not too bad.

They're fine. A little pricey perhaps but some of them look great.

I own the "Maverick". A look at the website suggests battery powered Quartz. :)

Pardon my ignorance. Referring to movement, what is the difference between quartz, swiss etc??

Ahh nice. That's a homage watch for pilots. The boldness on the hands with a black background was designed to read quickly in low light. The IWC Big Pilot is the king of that style of watch IMO.

The movement is the Miyota - designed by Citizen. About as good as you get for battery driven quartz. The only criticism is the glass - its mineral crystal, not sapphire crystal, so be careful banging it into stuff.

Quartz - use an electrical current powered by a battery to vibrate a tiny crystal, that vibration is always precise and measurable - so can set time.

Automatic - uses kinetic movement (moving your arm) to shift cogs, wheels and escapements to wind a spring, that spring then releases energy at a predictable level - so can set time.

Hand wound - similar to an automatic in that it uses the released energy of a spring, but you wind the spring up with a crown on the side.

Quartz are cheaper because they can be built by machines quickly and easily. Automatic and Hand Wound watches have way more moving parts and are much more complicated, so are more expensive. Watches that require each part to be hand made take months, and costs tonnes because of the time and engineering knowledge required to build one.

The thing is though, you wont find a vintage quartz watch. The circuitry in them eventually breaks down. However, Vintage watches with hand wound movements will work for, theoretically, as long as you want them too.

Heart rate monitors that happen to tell the time, not watches IMO. Assuming you're exercising or tracking some fitness they're fine.

I wouldn't wear one to dinner or to a function though. There was a guy at dinner last night who was well dressed but then had a bright blue bloody fitbit strapped on his wrist. Ick.

Garmins should only be worn while exercising. Including Fenix, I don't care if they do everything else.

A real fake then, nice one.

When in Bali "Honest Eric", well, that's what he had written on the inside of his jewellery box, tried selling me a "Real fake Rolex" on Kuta beach.

I assume he's still got it.
