I have recently been told that diet coke is actually worse for you than coke
Is this true ?

The most commonly distributed version of Diet Coke [and a majority of diet beverages with the 'diet' label] relies on Aspartame.
This is a low calorie sweetener similar to Equal or Nutrasweet.
In the past, these have been controversially linked to serious illnesses such as cancer, brain tumours, brain lessions and lymphoma, when consumed in large quantities.
But numerous medical studies have shown this is not the case
However, some studies show that diet drinks with artificial sweeteners stimulate your appetite, which can lead to eating when youre not hungry.
This, off course, defeats the entire purpose of diet drinks.
The dangers of Soduim Benzoate in soft drinks has also been noted in press reports.
When mixed with the additive vitamin C in soft drinks, it causes benzene, a known carcinogenic substance.
Since then, some other diet fizzy drink brands have been removed from sale, and Coca Cola has reformulated its recipe.

MALS EDITORIAL
The only advice I can give is that several health practioners have warned me in the past not to be drinking anything with Aspartame in it.
NorMAL Coke might actually be better when all matters are taken into consideration.

It is NOT healthy UNLESS you mix it with Bourbon or Scotch or Rum or Kalhua or Baccardi or..........
Then you are pissed so it doesn't matter !

Yeah i've heard normal Coke is less unhealthy than the diet variety as well. All the chemicals and crap in diet coke, you'd have to be silly to drink it.

about the same Its only diet coke re-badged for the 18-32 male age bracket so its back to normal coke for me and to keep my dentist in business

As a kid I used to actually drink Diet Coke "just for the taste of it", I loved the stuff when it first came out.
Then when they put nutra sweet or whatever it is in it it started tasting like cats urine.
My son loves Coke Zero so I let him drink it, would rather than than the full sugared stuff especially seeing as it was proved out to be a quack that there's any cancerous substances in it.
Christ, I used to drink Tang as a kid till mum found out that it had more sugar than Coke!

Tang rocked! Got a buzz for the rest of the day off that stuff!

Kids drink water, some cordial if they are after flavour.

I drink way too much full strength coke - free at work and a good mixer for some drinks at home.

After reading this information on Coca Cola Im going to drink it all day
every day as there is nothing wrong with the drink
After all coca-cola says there is nothing wrong with drinking coke

I will just have to tell all the Naturopaths/Doctors/Dietitians/Cancer Care association
that they have brainwashed me with illegitimate claims that Coke is not healthy

I still drink norMAL coke as I love the taste
BUT please please I dont need COCA COLA telling me its OK for my health

Just for the record Coca Cola was first sold in 1886
Prior to about 1929 it is ALLEDGED that there was small traces of cocaine in the drink !!!!!!

Rather glad I don't drink fizzy pop...I'm hooked on tea which is probably just as bad Although now I know that aspartame breaks down into, amongst other things, methanol (anti-freeze) I might have to get some stocks in for the winter months should save on the heating bills

I'd rather risk brain cancer than morbid obesity. Diet coke for me.

I've refused to touch artificial sweeteners for years. I just gave up sugar in tea coffe etc. I do drink the occasional normal coke in summer.

I read somewhere that Coca Cola grew out of the US originator tasting Coca Wine made in London - it was made by fermenting Coca fruit, the stone of which contains cocaine, and some leached into the wine. The Yank pinched the idea, but the US Temperance movement made him remove the alcohol in the late 19th century, and, yes, the cocaine was not replaced with equally addictive caffiene until the late 1920s.

I have eaten the Coca fruit while overseas, and the flavour is recognisable as the base for Coca Cola, but tasting the stone makes your face go numb for a while, and I am told makes you talkative. I seemed perfectly normal to me. And despite the claims of others I did not carry the stone around with me for the rest of the trip!

Now of course the caffiene is getting bad press and drinks containing natural herbal Guyana are being offered instead. Guess what Guyana contains - yes, caffiene!

Cocoa leaves might be where the cocaine traces were in.

This has perplexed me for a while - can someone give me the definitive answer on what is the difference between Coke Zero and Diet coke? I'm convinced Zero tastes better because Diet coke tastes like poison but really, what is the difference supposed to be?
