Feet Injuries/Painful Feet

Dont know if anyone might be able to help here but Ive got to the stage where Im clutching at straws.

Occasaionally (once last Wednesday and again today most recently) I wake up with an excruciating foot, nothing was done the day before, I just wake up occasionally with my foot hanging off the bed in an awkward position (being tallish) and being hardly able to walk for a day.
Last Wednesday I managed to hobble to work and despite actually twisting it once that day it got better as the day went on and felt 100% the next day.
Today again I work up in excruciating pain and a slightly swolen foot, Im really struggling to walk 5 metres on it.
As a kid I had issues with feet as I was born like a duck and had splints on my lower legs for 6 months to straighten them up and when I played footy I played constantly in pain with a sore foot or sore feet almost as soon as I started to run in warm ups with footy boots on.

Its happened before, Ive been to the Doc who ruled gout out and Ive had several Xrays which showed some slight abmormalities but nothing obvious.

Has anyone else encountered this or am I just weirdly unique?

Its causing me real distress today as the missus is at the show and I can't walk or drive to the local BWS for a 6 pack!

Have you had a blood test ?
You might have elevated and spasmodic Uric acid levels which cause an inflamed condition.
Might pay to recall what you eat or drink in the previous 24-48 hours for a guide.
The pain is more acute in the mornings as your body is perhaps dehydrated.
Water will cleanse your Uric acid levels as a rule
Same principle as Gout sufferers.

If its inflammation of sorts perhaps Fish Oil tablets will alleviate some of the pain.

Nah, didn't drink much on Saturday and the last time it happened I hadn't had a drink the night before, it only tends to flare up when I sleep with my foot in an awkward position hanging off the bed.

Wedgie....I suffer from Gout, I had my first attack early in the year and was sent off for xrays as it felt Like I had broken a bone in my foot (it was that painful) like yours it commonally attacks over night when the foot is not moving, Ive just had my second attack and did more research on it and found out it is incurable!...that shocked me so its something I now have to deal with daily....less red meat, less alchohol, more fruit and Neurofen helps tremendously to ease the pain

is the pain specifically on or around the big toe? and does it hurt even to lightly touch it? if Yes I reckon its gout, welcome to the club

Had exactly the same thing happen to me last year... woke up with a swollen and very painful foot :(
Went to the doc and it came as a surprise that it was Gout.
Was prescribed some medication to take and after a few days it was getting better.

Mal is correct about the role of Uric acid, it will pool in extremities, then crystalise and cause the extreme pain.
Staying well hydrated to dilute the acid (as well as Dutchy's other suggestions) is essential to avoiding repeat episodes.

Common gout causes (foods which increase uric acid levels) are Tomatoes, OJ, Offal (ie purine rich foods such as tuna and salmon), alcohol, red meat. Try to isolate a cause and eliminate it, plenty of water drinking is the key too. Gout medications such as allopurinol/progout work well too (prescription). Gout is episodal so if it lasts more than a few days, its not gout. Gout most commonly presents in the 1st big toe joint, if its not sore in a joint its not gout.
Hope this helps
