Help with Gardening (well sorta) question

Postby Lunchcutter » Thu Oct 18, 2007 11:14 am

Howdy

me and my dh want to fill in a large pond and make it into some sort of garden - we have drained the water out and drilled some holes in the bottom for drainage but we are now looking for more information as to what type of soil/dirt/loam ?? to use to fill it in and where should we get it from?? should we layer - say some gravel, then dirt, gravel then loam?? can anyone offer me a cost effective solution any any other advice will be appreciated. We are aiming for some sort of garden bed with maybe a few veggies on the top layer... without measuring yet, I would say the pond is 7 metres long and about 4 wide. my mate deals me when we take delivery of the soil etc we can hire some device to take it from out the front to the back?? any ideas what this may be?

Go to a garden shop (Garden Grove offer good advice) and ask them the best stuff to use as your base and top soil. Once you have determined those, shop around for best price as it's not likely to be Garden Grove.

As far as a device to move it, shovels and wheelbarrows have always worked for me. Amazing how quick stuff moves once you get into it.

They are an expensive hire though LC, depends on if you want cost efficient or time efficient I guess. Good luck with the job, whichever way you choose.

Garden Grove is my favourite place :)
Plus, it's 5 minutes away
I love 'Food and Stuff'. It's where I buy all of my food. And most of my stuff.
