Hey all,

I have a weeks holidays starting the 12th of November and the missus and I want to go away for a night somewhere. Leave one day, visit and see, sleep, see more, come home.

Not sure where, open to suggestions. Somewhere withint say, 300km?

I'm tempted to go to the riverland, maybe Loxton (see Dogwatchers stomping ground!) or something like that.

Not overly expensive either, nice and basic

(the little one is coming too!)

Centurion - Karoonda has a nice big sheep. Some may like that sort of thing.

Has it got a pretty mouth?

Robe is a beautiful location, with lots to see nearby. Beachport, Mt. Gambier & The Gypsy Jokers HQ, Naracoorte Caves, The Tantanoola Tiger, Nora Creina, Pt. Macdonnell, Nelson & The Glenelg River, great fishing, great wineries.

Hmmmm...never got that close.

Or, you can go the other way. Wilpena Pound & take a scenic flight-absolutely breathtaking-Blinman pub for a wicked T-Bone, You HAVE to have a beer at The Lyndhurst pub, Quorn, Pichi Richi Pass, Wilmington, Melrose & Mt. Remarkable, then back through The Clare Valley. Laura, the home of Golden North Ice Cream (the best Vanilla Ice Cream in the world), Auburn, the home of poet C.J. Dennis.

Clare's very good.
It's a nice drive to get there Diss - particularly if you go through Kapunda etc.

Then again, you could take in the bottom of Yorke Peninsula. Stansbury, Hardwicke Bay, Corny Point & Port Turton, Marion Bay, Gleeson's Landing, Stenhouse Bay, visit the last few remaining pieces of The Wreck of The Ethel, before the next storm washes her away forever, then up to Minlaton to view Harry Butler's Red Devil (a bi-plane), quaint little fishing towns like Balgawon, Tickera, Bluff Beach, then home past The Curramulka Maggies footy club & Tiddy Widdy Beach.

And Skillogalee Wines & Grosset Wines, who make what would have to be the best Riesling in the world, which goes by the name of Mesh.

Skillogallee's is a wonderful little spot for a bite.

A warm spring day, sitting under the Olive Tree out the back of Skillogalee Winery, slurping away at the local produce, whilst looking over the vineyard & the Skilly Hills-it don't get much better than that

I was going to suggest Clare but if you did it last time then how about Goolwa?

The Overland Corner hotel is a top spot for lunch & then a stroll down to the river. You can stay just 5 minutes up the road toward Barmera at Loch Luna Eco-stay, a fully self-contained cabin built on a cliff-top overlooking the Loch Luna lagoon. Take her there, Diss, & Miss Diss will be in bliss & you won't miss!

Ohh the SHIRAZ....ohh yeah mumma ! LOVE that stuff....will be going back there in Jan next year after watching the Hoodoo Gurus on the "Day on the green" at Annies Lane...Skillogalee, better get another couple dozen...mmmmmmmmmm

Diss, I like Mount Gambier, Clarendon Chalets are great, very nice, do the stuff what CENTURION says, and on the way there/home stock up on the good stuff ( I like Balnaves )....ALL GOOD !!

And who says South Australia is boring?

You could visit the bustling metropolis of Peterborough.
First visit is the printing centre dating back to the late 1800's, the printing building is in use even today on a 24 hour shift rotation basis as it supplies the locals with health care cards.
Then take the 'Boro trail in your locally made ugg boots to the TAFE where you can see locals study the only course on offer which is denture making.
After you've sunk your teeth into the TAFE you can stroll down to Victoria Park and feed the ducks, but it's thirsty work so be careful when you drink out of the public fountain there as it only pours out fruity lexia.
Once you've done the Vic Park tour, go back to the main street and go shopping at foodland where it costs $10 for 5kg of spuds and wonder what all the excitement is around near the frozen section.
You then realise that it's a thursday and most of the local women with their 7 prams each have made their first journey outdoors in 14 days to the EFTPOS machine.

As an outsider you wonder how the bloody hell do they get the 7 prams outside of foodland and then you realise there is 8 blokes waiting outside as they roll a Port Royal wearing their tank tops.

Oh how romantic, they are going to take the kids out to lunch........yep........lunch on their own as they sit in queue at the saloon bar like a parking lot as the parents are blowing their "hard earnt" on the pokies.

Won't be long and Peterborough is bound to be on POSTCARDS...

All of those wonderful things to see in Peterborough and not a mention of the rail history
