Degrees of Separation

Inspired by Bayman's day at Flemington as charmingly told by Scaffidi cant Drive in the Gambling Room, it got me wondering about the old "six degrees of separation". Under this hypothesis, everyone knows everyone through no more than six other people.

Has anyone got any stories to tell (apart from those who grew up in Tasmania)??

If you play a sport you are bound to meet up with people you play against, its happened to me a few times

An aqucaintence of a person who used to be my friend was surprised I'd even heard of the town Natimuk in Victoria, and said her uncle used to live there and still owned a house there which he rents out. Next time I went there, I asked the people I was staying with about him and they said that when they first moved to Natimuk they lived in his house! How bizarre!

Flew to London last year from Melbourne and had a plane changeover in Singapore for two hours. Decided to walk around Changi airport to fill in the time. While in a music store, ran into my mother-in-law's best friend and her husband (who were at our wedding as their guests), who were flying home from Switzerland and just filling in time before their flight back into Adelaide.

Actually, that probably not a degree of separation, just a bizaare fluke that you would meet up in a foreign country.

This is weird, happened when I was in Europe...

Was drinking in a pub, in Bennekom, Ede, in the Netherlands, where my Dads family are from.
Started talking to a local (well he approached me), and he was interested in my background.
A bit suss I dropped a few hints re Dad being from there and how his family emigrated in the
50's. This bloke then asked if I knew a Stene. Well I had a Aunty Stene from Holland and this
was the one ! He lived next door to her !! It was my first night in Bennekom, and I was planning
on popping over to her house the next day or so !!

Spun me out big time !!
