Degrees of Separation

Inspired by Bayman's day at Flemington as charmingly told by Scaffidi cant Drive in the Gambling Room, it got me wondering about the old "six degrees of separation". Under this hypothesis, everyone knows everyone through no more than six other people.

Has anyone got any stories to tell (apart from those who grew up in Tasmania)??

Connections to connections?

Live next door to someone of notoriety?

An aqucaintence of a person who used to be my friend was surprised I'd even heard of the town Natimuk in Victoria, and said her uncle used to live there and still owned a house there which he rents out. Next time I went there, I asked the people I was staying with about him and they said that when they first moved to Natimuk they lived in his house! How bizarre!

Flew to London last year from Melbourne and had a plane changeover in Singapore for two hours. Decided to walk around Changi airport to fill in the time. While in a music store, ran into my mother-in-law's best friend and her husband (who were at our wedding as their guests), who were flying home from Switzerland and just filling in time before their flight back into Adelaide.

Actually, that probably not a degree of separation, just a bizaare fluke that you would meet up in a foreign country.

Here you go...

I know Stuart Dew,
Stuart Dew was 'giving it to' Teresa Palmer
Teresa Palmer was having it 'given to her' by Topher Grace at one point
Topher Grace was in Spiderman 3 with Kirsten Dunst
Kirsten Dunst was in "Interview with a Vampire" with Tom Cruise.

I can therefore go fight aliens with Tom.

Anyone who knows Brett Backwell can link straight to Letterman, and pretty much anyone from there as well.

Was Kirsten Dunst ever on Letterman?

If so we have a full circle :)

I had dinner with Greta Scacchi a couple of years back. Does that count?
Unfortunately my wife was there as well  She is an old friend of Gretas from Perth days.

This is weird, happened when I was in Europe...

Was drinking in a pub, in Bennekom, Ede, in the Netherlands, where my Dads family are from.
Started talking to a local (well he approached me), and he was interested in my background.
A bit suss I dropped a few hints re Dad being from there and how his family emigrated in the
50's. This bloke then asked if I knew a Stene. Well I had a Aunty Stene from Holland and this
was the one ! He lived next door to her !! It was my first night in Bennekom, and I was planning
on popping over to her house the next day or so !!

Spun me out big time !!

Hows this

My local councillor (and great mate) is fellow Snout Joel Bayliss

Joel goes to the Bays v West games with MP Steve Georganis

Georganis knows Kevin Rudd

K Rudd knows J Howard

J Howard knows G Bush (and the Queen)

This game is too easy

Hmm
I've met Nelson Mandela.
Nelson Mandela has met Queen Elizabeth 2
Queen Elizabeth 2 met her uncle who abdicated the British throne
Edward Windsor (formerly King Edward) met Adolf Hitler in France some time in the late 30s

I am therefore fully qualified to attempt to conquer most of Europe, or die in the attempt.

I'll go again then, in just two steps.

I've met Donald Bradman.
Don Bradman met Charles Bannerman.

I'm qualified to play in the first Test match instead of a few of the duds who got picked, and denied me a baggy green.

Rog, sorry mate, this is six degrees, you need to go back further - maybe you could go back from Charles Bannerman to Tom Wills to Dick-A-Dick and then one of his relatives - you could then be one of the original Australians.
