WHATS AUSTRALIA BECOMING?

A 49-year-old man has been killed and another man seriously injured in a brawl on a Western Australian beach, involving one family who were playing cricket.
The brawl between two groups of Christmas revellers occurred at about 9pm (AWDT) yesterday at Sunset Beach in Geraldton, north of Perth.
According to police, the 49-year-old and his family were playing cricket yesterday evening, when they were approached by a group of people.
A verbal dispute took place, police said, with the group leaving the scene, only to return later in greater numbers.
The crowd of 10 then attacked the family with beer bottles, rocks and sticks thrown.
During the melee, the 49-year-old was hit in the head with a cricket bat, knocking him unconscious.
His 29-year-old future son-in-law was slashed in the face with a broken bottle, and had his jaw and collarbone broken.
Both were taken to Geraldton Regional Hospital, where the older man died at 2.30am today of serious head injuries.
The 29-year-old is still being treated at the hospital. He required 35 stitches to his face.

That's just sh1t. Makes you really wonder about where this country is headed. Things like this are becoming far too common.

In the real world they die or survive crippled.

Who cares? Why should that be important? We know what type of people they are and that is very ordinary ones. That's all that matters.

This may or may not be relevant, but it is true those who have grown up and/or lived in a violent environment like a war-torn country may have had the same desensitisation process as I described above.

There's some crazy people in this world but there always has been.
I'm sure the only thing that's kept me out of any problems over the years is my size. Have to be more careful the older I get as it seems age doesn't stop idiots attacking people.
I hate to think of what things will be like in a hundred years time, the cornserstone of society should be respecting your elders but unfortunately that's a thing of the past with a lot of crazies these days.
RIP, my thoughts go out to his family, hope the bastards involved get strung up for life.

totally agree with you WEDGIE in respect to size. I'm 6'4 and in the 80's i did my fair share of front door bouncing for the sporting clubs in the hills. more people were scared of you because of your size and with a stern look at the trouble makers they tend to fold and do the right thing. nowadays here in the ACT/NSW the smallest runt has an attitude problem and what's to deck you. the main saying here is live life to the MAX. and leave a good looking corpse.

UPDATE OF THIS STORY
A grandfather was beaten to death with his own cricket bat after challenging a gang of men who were allegedly stealing drinks from his cooler on Christmas Day.
The incident, at a beach in Geraldton in WA, threatens to ignite racial tensions in the coastal town.
Yalgoo farmer William John Rowe had been playing beach cricket with his family when a verbal dispute developed between the Rowes and a local Aboriginal group.
It is believed the dispute was triggered when the 49-year-old Mr Rowe objected to drinks being taken from a cooler.
The Aboriginal group left, returning shortly in greater numbers.
According to police a fight began in which punches were thrown, and when the Rowes attempted to leave they were pelted with bottles and stones.
Mr Rowe was knocked unconscious by a blow to the head from his own cricket bat.
He was taken to Geraldton Regional Hospital, along with his 29-year-old future son-in-law Luke Neil who had been slashed in the face with a broken bottle and had his jaw and collarbone broken.
Mr Rowe died in hospital at 2.30am on Boxing Day, while Mr Neil required 35 stitches to the face.
A family member told website Perth Now that Mr Neil had only just revealed his intention to marry Mr Rowe's daughter.
"They had only been engaged for a few hours before they were viciously attacked by a group of people,'' the man said.
"These people need to be caught and dealt with."

What a senseless death. Crimes like that deserve the full extent of the law....

Lock the bastards involved up for life, every single one of them.
Only sad part about that is the amount of money it will cost the tax payer.
Pity we can't have a prison like the one in the 3rd series of Prison Break to throw these bastards into. Low maintenance, low cost and effective.

This is absolutely disgusting. This poor bloke doing the most Ozzie of pastimes, cricket on Christmas Day with your family, is set upon by some f#@king losers with no respect for other people or their belongings.
I'm not racist (I hate everyone!) but these people have to pay but I can bet the race card will be brought up when it is punishment time and they will get off with a smack on the wrist.

Hazbeen - it seems you're playing the race card already by claiming they'll get off because of their race.
While the law is pretty hazy sometimes in terms to how it treats Indigenous crime, I would think this senseless offence will be treated in exactly that way - as a senseless crime and will be treated appropriately in the courts. No one is going to have any sympathy in relation to this, because no one deserves to be belted around like that for any reason.

My thoughts on who was involved were correct. These aborigines make the good ones in society have a very bad name, we all know of a few of our own who do good in society and hold positions in council but these groups who hang out in gangs need to be brought to justice and the full extent of the law before more people get hurt / killed!!
