Weather Stations

Has anyone installed a weather station at home? I'm thinking about getting one but they all seem hard to compare and many seem to come from the US and I'm not sure about their compatibility here - eg wireless transmission on frequencies, PC software etc.

I've checked out http://www.weatherbuffs.com/ and http://www.australianskynweather.com/index1.htm - the latter recommends one Davis Station pretty much so choice is limited.

I'm not quite after one like this - http://www.weatherbuffs.com/RainWise_HM ... rw-hm1.htm

but thinking of something decent up to $800 that will do things pretty much automatically, ideally solar, and suitable for Australian conditions.

Can anyone offer any suggestions?

I just turn on the computer and look at the BOM website.

Squawk - I know someone here who makes them.
Will try to find out how much they cost and if he has any left.

I do the same. Living very close to the airport I use the readings from there for rain etc etc.

I'm in the process of installing a irrigation system for my yard, and will be using rain & moisture sensors in the ground and on the control pads.
That way it'll only water (from my bore) once the level hits a certain point.

I got a $2 "Made in China" plastic rain gauge from Cheap as Chips, which I monitor daily, and it gives very similar readings to the nearest BOM site.

I reckon the BOM use the same $2 gauge from china.
That would explain the similar rain readings.
I also understand they use a pin wheel for wind speed
