Have a daughter who loves looking around art and craft markets on Sundays, wondering if people could describe their experiences at each one so I know which ones to visit and which ones to avoid.
Probably 2 better one's I've been too are Myponga (great quality of stuff) and last weekend went to the Port markets which even I enjoyed as there was a heap of antique places with old footy gear.
Also went to the Rundle St markets last Sunday, was OK, but not a huge range of stuff, the Festival Theatre markets were a joke and wont be back there.
Also been in the past to Victor Harbor which isn't too bad and the one's held at Marion Rec Centre and the small effort down at the Bay.

Hey, I love markets and school/church fetes.

The Port market is superb. Loads of old junk on offer. Last time I was there (some years ago now) I came home with an armful of mid-80s footy budgets at 50 cents apiece.

Brighton High School car boot sale is well worth a gander. Always loads of stalls selling lotsa diverse junk. I've found old footy publications here too, and numerous second hand DVDs/videos for the daughter.

Brickworks is always good for a stroll, though when I've been there half the stalls were closed. The fruit/veg market there is a good place to stock up cheaply.

Marion Craft market is exactly that. Only bother if you like granny-knitted footy scarves. There are a few food stalls too (wurst, honey, etc) IIRC.

Festival centre market looks like an attempt to rip off Melbourne's Southbank market (which is excellent), but fails. Takes 15 minutes to wander through, and nothing worth buying. Only positive is the free parking!

Glenelg market = 10% of the Marion craft market. Not worth going out of the way to look at, but worth a glance if you're walking past.

There was a replacement for the old Rundle street market running somewhere in town - near the German club - but it was not worth the effort. I've not been to the "new" Rundle St market yet.

Heart of the Hills market was worth a look. Not unlike the old Orange Lane Markets (RIP) but a lot less "alternative". Good trip with kids 'coz it's a short drive to the Big Rocking Horse and Wildlife Park afterwards.

Went to a market at Nairne a few years back, this was exceptionally large for a country market and full of diverse stalls. I had severe heartburn on the day I went, complicated by an allergy flare-up, so I didn't appreciate it as well as I might have done.

I especially like school/church fetes in order to stock up on old books. Westminster fete is easily the best one on my manor, on usually in March. Sacred Heart Middle School is usually worth a look. Stella Maris and Christ the King fetes are small.

Also went to the Pt Adelaide markets last weekend and noticed all of the SANFL stuff. Some of the things that they were TRYING to sell had prices that I wouldve thought would not get much interest. The interest that it got from us was a big frown from Mrs Brod, like a cloth SANFL patch for $10-$15. I totally understand the age and rarity of items but cmon. It makes me wish for the all of the Norwood stuff I had when I was a kid, many loved to death and that my Footy Budgets of the 1980's didnt have Hitler mo's on all the opposition players along with the stink lines drawn all over tham.

Willunga markets on Sat mornings are becoming a Dutchy family tradition esp in winter....the main market is just food but I think is the first Sat in the month there is one on the oval which has all the art and craft stuff....Willunga is a beautiful place and only a short drive from the Southern subs and the breakfast int he cafe there is brilliant!

MEADOWS markets are ok, but only worth going if heading through that direction.

the Willunga markets are good, interesting to see what people are trying to auction off.

Great fruit and Veg at the mainline drive in at gepps cross every sunday!

Port Markets the best Ive been to
They started charging for the car park a couple of years ago so I stopped going
on a regular basis, not scabby as I usually spend a fair bit, just absolutely
hate spending admissions if applicable and for carparks when Im spending $$$$$$ at places.

Gepps X is a good one.

A little underated shop is Clems Collectables Off Pauls Drive at Valley View
He has SANFL stuff for sale there as well as well as a lotta 60s and 70s stuff

There was a guy who had an enourmous collection of sporting memorabillia
including SANFL in massive quantity
That was 20 years ago in his house
He was named THE COLLECTOR out at Fullarton way
What ever happened to him ?

Myponga's not bad and there's a small brewery out the back where you can sample their finest.
I've picked up a couple of old NAFC bargains at the Port market but haven't been there for a while.

why not go to melbourne for the day and visit the markets there....good day out

Yeah, Queen Vic Markets are crap now apparantly.. there is another market out in the suburbs somewhere that shites all over it I've been told..

There are 2 markets in Marion, fortnightly I think. The car-boot one at the Sports club on Sturt rd is much better, like the Brighton High one. There once was a guy in a combi van who had loads of SANFL stuff but I've never seen him since!

Still on the endless pursuit for 2 mascots to complete the set...

QUEEN ST markets are crap filled by immigrants who fail to respect the history of this country - this belongs in another thread!!!!!!

but there are markets at st kilda and across from telstra doom etc

Thanks for the suggestions guys, agree about the Queen Victoria markets, used to enjoy going there but I don't think the stalls (or some of the merchandise) has changed in 20 years.

Thanks for putting me onto the micro brewery Ian, stopped at Myponga today and tried a few different refreshments at the Brewery, bought a 6 pack of chilli beer too. Great little spot thats a bit hidden, Id be quite satisfied sitting in the brewery chatting away to the brewer trying all the different brews for free!
Mrs Wedgie bought a coat rack for $29, son bought a car, daughter bought a book and Dad was happy with his beer.
There was a stall in there that had some musical instruments (new) for riduculously low prices, I wanted by the Euphonium for $280 but Mrs Wedgie wouldn't let me.
(Cheapest Euphonium on Ebay is $295 with $55 postage and they go up to $2000! )
