Who's going to a dawn service tomorrow?
Where are the good ones, particularly north of Adelaide?

I usually go to my home town one, but won't be home this time around....

DW, will probably be going to the Colonel Light Gardens service.

Although not close to home, it's pretty good, and my old man is the Auditor there (allthough he'll probably go to the
one in the city as he's on the organising committee for the march).

Plus, the bar at the CLG RSL serves nice cold beer !!

Have always headed to the city if I have gone at all. Might head to the RSL around the corner this year and get an extra 15 minutes in bed, then a couple of hours of two up before heading to the footy.

I'll be at the Unley service DW. To me ANZAC Day is the most important day of the year. The sacrifice made by so many, so long ago should never be forgotten. (and before anyone has a go those who've served more recently or are serving currently deserve no less acknowledgement).

Two of my great grandfathers enlisted in 1914 and amazingly survived Gallipoli and The Western Front for 4 years. My Grandfather was a turrett gunner flying over Germany towards the end of WW2 and was shot down over the English Channel, being the only survivor.

The atrocities that these men saw must have been horrendous. My grandfather has told me before that not a night goes by that when lying in bed he doesn't think about the day he was shot down and of those mates he lost...

I emplore everyone to make the effort to get out of bed at 5:30 and head down to your nearest service. It's such a small sacrifice to make considering the enormous sacrifce so many others have made for us to live with the freedom we enjoy.

the way of life we enjoy in this wonderful country is largely due to the efforts of the servicemen and woman who fought on foriegn shores....

the day to me is also about "Respect" to think about our past and to look to the future..............

Semaphore RSL hold their dawn service on the foreshore, end of Semaphore Rd. They usually get a good turnout, starts at 6.00am. Its a tranquil setting for the service.

Might be a bit out of your way though DW.

if you ever get the chance come here to the one at the war memorial in canberra. it will get you emotional

I normally attended the Marion RSL (Norfolk Av). Always followed by breakfast at rsl club complete with a coffee with a dash of bundy (gunfire coffee??). Afterwards Waymouth St, Union Hotel for the street party- always a top day.
I presume dawn services will start at 6am???

Every year My wife, kids and I head down to Brighton Beach at 5.30am for the Dawn Service. Tranquil, emotional, brilliant. Especially as you hear the gentle waves crashing on the shore during many moments of silence.

Then home for a hearty breakfast, get dressed up (squeeze into) my old uniform and off to the city to march. Service at Cross of Sacrifice, then to the Union Hotel to have a few quiet beers with all of my old mates from my units - ends up being a dangerous day/ night.

And I am with CC - ANZAC Day means a hell of a lot to me. As well as my own medals, I proudly wear my Grandfathers who served at The Somme. My Dad and Uncle march with the WWII Air Force guys and we take them back to the Union for a laugh and a beer. My wife, also a serving member, marches alongside of me, well behind me actually, as I generally lead our group - a great day for our family.

The kids sit with my Mum and look on with pride as their Grandfather and parents march on by.

My knee will be the only thing that holds me back from heading to the Salisbury dawn service. Hopefully a day of rest today will see me okay for the morning.

agree, went to one when I was living in Canberra a few years ago
(bloody cold though )

I will go to the dawn service at the flag pole at the front of Keswick Barracks
then march through town, then a few beers (generally turns into many ) at the Union

I'm off to the Henley Dawn Service which as around 6:30 I believe (haven't confirmed yet).

I agrere with fellow posters about the importance of ANZAC Day ... I've spent the last 12 months kicking myself for not making it last year, pretty disrespectful that I couldn't find the time to ogranise myself well enough to get there given the unfathomable sacrifice so many made for myself and loved ones.

Go the the RSL website, it lists all the services, and times.

CP, having taken part in many Rememberance parades over the years I seen and met enough people to know that not everyone attends services for the same reasons...some disgusting mongrels go because it makes them look good...so don't kick yourself for not going last year...it's the fact that you remembered them that counts regardless of where you are when you do it. As far as I'm concerned the person that takes the trouble to stop what they're doing and have a minutes silence/reflection or a similar gesture is worth a thousand of the ones that go to watch a service for their own gain.

Yep, Salisbury RSL is out toward the train station from the oval.
