The Packer name fell from the top of the national rich-list for the first time in 20 years, superceded by Fortescue Metals Group chief executive Andrew "Twiggy" Forrest, who is worth $9.4 billion - the biggest amassed fortune in the 25-year history of the Rich 200 list.

Westfield Group shopping centres co-founder Frank Lowy ranked second with a $6.3 billion fortune, while media and casino investor James Packer managed third place, worth $6.1 billion - down from $7.25 billion last year after his interests took a hit in falling sharemarkets this year.

Convicted fraudster Alan Bond rejoined the ranks of Australia's wealthiest people after 19 years.

Eight years after being released from jail, Mr Bond ranked 157th on the list with a fortune of $265 million built on his overseas mining interests.
