I always worked in a job that wasn't allowed a union, or to strike or to demand a pay rise...but isn't that what unions etc do...start high and barter it down through negotiations. Wouldn't be surprised if they all ask for a rise in the high teens/low twenties to set the ball rolling but knowing they won't get it.
Regards
JAS

Do you think before you post crap? Closer to primary school teachers earn $70 000 every two years.

Let me ask you Dog_ger. How much do you think a GOOD teacher is worth? I'm genuinely curious how much value you place in someone who plays a positive and significant role in educating children.

It´s a shame teachers didn`t teach you how to finish a sentence with correct punctuation.

The ones you decribe deserve to be paid well, the others should be sacked, and there is plenty of both catagories.

As a broad group, excluding the exceptional teacher, they haven't done in years. Sixteen years ago, or so, I knew a history lecturer at Adelaide Uni, who scrapped his first term curriculum to teach the kids basic reading comprehension and writing skills after the first couple of papers came in.

My son would have been better off with a monkey than the dinosour he had one year in Primary school, parent aquantaince night, first disturbing quote "I'm an old fashioned teacher with old fashioned ways and I will not change for anyone". Boys were not allowed to leave the class room to go to the toilet, Girls were etc. etc.

21% spread over 3 years Dog.
Marking out of hours, preparing curriculum during holidays and on weekends and putting up with up to 30 5,6 or 7 year olds at any one time and you think $70k is over paid?
The real world awaits your arrival.

Dog ger - why should teachers not be allowed to seek a better deal?
Maybe it's time the Aged Care system did the same.
The government is as involved in that system as it is education...

Sounds like you and the aged care industry is doing it tough. Make a thread about that rather than worrying about teachers. I believe people such as yourself, people who educate and look after children and nurses should all be paid a lot more but like everyone else I'm worrying about my own sorry arse.
