Ford Mk 1 Escort, powered by Lotus

I dont know how many world rally championship fans there are in here, yet it is interesting seeing the Ford Focus being so dominant, yet is it suprising considering its heritage from 1973! 8)

Lotus had quite a thing going with British Fords, in particular the Mk 1 Cortina, good luck finding one now for under 50K

I picked up one of these [vintage 1995] second hand in 2002.
I'll keep running it as long as I can get fuel - 96 RON minimum - it prefers higher RON since I tweaked it a little.

I am tipping Psyber then that you might have some interest in the BBC spin off series from Life on Mars - Ashes to Ashes! 8)

Yes. It appears to be the UR Quattro model - the first Quattro series - a predecessor of the S2 Quattro I have, and of the more recent S3 and TT Quattro series.
Mine's a 2.3 litre 5 cylinder putting out 169Kw originally as marketed as a street car, but now at 206Kw.
[The later S3 and TT used the 1.8 Litre 4 cylinder, and recently the 3.2 litre 6.]

I will have to see if I can find a direct reference, yet I was told that the orginal Audi Quattro series was banned from the WRC from being so insanley to fast and it was considered to dangerous as a result - more like the situation where the Ford Sierra was banned from Bathurst because it made to many V8 fans cry seeing their heroes cleaned up by something that featured modern technology! :?

I'm not sure that the original quattro (Audi always insisted on a small q), was ever banned. The car that led to the disintegration of Group B was the Lancia Delta S4 and the massive crash that killed Henri Toivonen.

There's a good site that details the Group B cars

My favourite would have to be the Audi Sport quattro S1...

What a beast. My old man had one of these. We drove from Adelaide and Sydney and back in one. I remember searching for coins under the front seat so we could scrape up enough cash for a feed in Balranald. And it turned out to be absolute crap!
