I was 1st year high school.

My MUM let me take the day off because this was history.

My mate John McGuinness came to visit in his school uniform.

Me and my sister were doing somer saults on our beds which were brought into our lounge,

Possibly for the occasion..?

I was 8 yo and mum wouldn't let us stay up or be woken up to watch on tv with dad. The landing was about 4am here IIRC.

Being an older guy, I was a junior doctor at the old Enfield Hospital at the time. Our recreation area didn't have a TV set.
I had to bully the clerical administrator into letting me raid the storeroom for a broken down set that no longer worked and repair it myself, which I could because I had an interest in electronics and used to build amplifiers. The other doctors covered my work while I did it because they wanted to see it too.

2nd year high school (year 9 in todays language) couldn't see a bloody thing on the old B&W at school, a couple of my mates got caught smoking while it was all happening. There are very few people I consider heroes but the astronauts (and cosmonauts) of the 60s and 70s fit the bill, very gutsy and smart people, a rare combination.

Nah, it was the middle of the day, I was sent there for being naughty, I can still remember holding the front door open for the firies

Nah, it was the middle of the day, I was sent there for being naughty, I can still remember holding the front door open for the firies

At least I only set fire to other peoples' property! Once a grass fire in a paddock used to store scrap metal for Browns, and once a Peppercorn tree in an adjacent playground in Bowden.
On both occasions it was accidental, while playing with matches and fireworks, and I had been elsewhere at the time and turned up after the fire engines.

Speaking of setting fires, I remember playing cricket for Salisbury North (School Team) and we were getting a pasting when our English Teacher (can't remember his name) set fire to the very dry scrubby grass so we all had to stop play and put it out.

Stupid thing to do, I know, but bloody funny as the game was abandoned and ended in a draw.

I was at primary school in the Shaky Isles and it was on a black and white telly in the classroom, difficult to see but memorable all the same. It would be the equivalent of Grade 3 here I think.

Serious? That has to be the greatest teacher of all time! What a legend!

My turn to get off topic... Anyone ever met a flat earther? Obviously someone who still believes the earth is flat, but their theories are a crack up. General consensus is that the earth is a flat circular disc with the arctic at the center and antartica is the border. It makes for some interesting reading, not to mention some very weird answers about commercial flight paths. How they could be so willingly stupid is beyond me!

Sorry I was reminded by pics of the earth taken from the moon, which the flat earthers believe are fake of course.
