I want to buy a Station Wagon about mid90s
Automatic
I want to then put LPG on that car
Want a wagon suitable for LPG
How much should I pay for the vehicle ?
Any suggestions what car and make I should be looking to buy privately or at Auctions ?

Might be better off trying to find one with LPG already in... there's a fair wait for LPG installations just at the minute.

there are 2 RAA approved installers I think and they're both booked for the next 12 months apparently.

Mal, I've noticed that cars with LPG don't increase the value of the car much. You might pay an extra couple of % premium, but i'd be looking with one recently installed.

I've heard from the RAA, that Commodores aren't the best vehicles for LPG. I don't know why, cos I'm not mechanically minded.

A bloke I work with has just asked Ford for a recall on LPG only Falcons which have a known problem. That problem cost him over 4000 bucks. However Falcons that are Gas and Petrol are apparently fine and don't suffer the same problem as this one.

A Falcon is probably the best way to go, a lot of the Asian cars are not reccomended for LPG, yet the Falcons are primarally used for Taxis and are designed for it.

The problem that you have is the age of the vehicle that you are looking for, it can be a better idea to put LPG on an engine with a lower kilometers as possible, otherwise it tends to blast away at the Carbon deposits in the engine and cases can occur of valves being burnt out as a result.

I would probably have a look at an AU or later falcon with as low a ks as possible for that reason.

Alternatively, why not head down to Collectable Classics at Edwardstown and get yourself a real car? 8)

Correct - LPG conversions cost around $2000-$3000 but only increase the value of your cars replacement value by about 10%.

You'll be surprised how many people ring up and think their cars will be insured for an extra $3000 because they've spent the money
