School Cartwheel Ban.....WTF?

Sorry guys I havent found a news article on this yet but I just wanted to voice or sorry show the rolling of my eyes at this

Basically a townsville school has banned this practice by there students. According to the news article I heard it was more about the practice was dangerous and can cause harm to students.

Ok now based on this I ask all the brains trust here, what the hell is going on. Are we really heavily based in OHS that we cant even allow our children to well play?

I would be very interested on people option here.

Couldn't agree more, when my daughter was about 8 (11 years ago) she asked me why all the fun stuff had been removed from the playgrounds? Obviously the same nazi philosophy that removed the monkey bars and slippery dip back then have broadened their horizons to cart wheels  No wonder kids just want to sit in front of computers and TV. I was lucky when I was growing up, all fireworks were legal, you could own a 0.22 rifle at 14, it was possible to buy Sodium Chlorate (NaClO3) for bomb and rocket manufacture at the local hardware (no questions asked). Poor kids today.

I think this is stemming from the litigious nature of current society. Everyone is trying to cover their arses from a civil lawsuit.

I read the article the other day, it was apparently a result of gymnastics being classified as a level 2 activity when undertaken in a class group. This is the same classification given to football yet football hasn't been banned at lunchtimes. Seems a really odd decision this one.

Football was banned or as good as when I was at primary school. No tackilng or bumping and every game had to be umpired by a student who had undertaken a course and wearing a sash.

Yep, tackling/bumping is not allowed in 'games' of football at school.

Most likely the cart-wheel banning is a result of 1 or 2 students at the school getting injured from doing one, and the school is covering its backside by not allowing students to do it anymore.

Its starting to be a sad world we live in.
Soon students wont be allowed outside during recess as they might catch a cold and school will be liable.

Here you go Stan...

They ban that kind of stuff here too

Shouldn't be too long before the common cold is as deadly to kids as a super bug if they keep trying to make people raise kids in a sterile enviroment...let them play, let them get dirty...it's good for them.

JAS

we used to play on a section of the oval the furtherest away from the school. Although they did try to clamp down on us when we had a few concussions and a broken arm all from one lunch time........

Kids suing the govt up here for getting injured at school:

http://www.news.com.au/couriermail/story/0,23739,24258925-952,00.html

Cases like these are a lawyer's wet dream

No doubt that sometimes though the injuries are quite serious and the school may be negligent in some way.
But these cases would be pretty rare.

Society gets evermore litigious...

I thought Woodville High was over the top in my youth when they tried to ban "Pigeon Toe" which was a form of team "Brandy". They eventually gave in and permitted it on an outer region of the school oval where incidental damage to those playing softer games was lower risk.
