Anyone seen this new site ? Got a good review on the news here a few days ago and thought I'd have a look.

I thought maybe it would be a fun thing for teachers to use with kids studying geography. Probably not an accurate enough source to be quoted in schoolwork but still a fun visual aid to get them interested as they can apply it to themselves.

You can put in your surname and see a map of global distribution of that name. Then you can zoom in on continents and countries to break it down even further. Looked to be pretty accurate for mine...even had my region of Scotland shaded and I know I'm the only family member living up here.

Still a couple of areas to be added...an 'area search' and an 'ethnicity search'.

Cool stuff, my name's most popular in Germany and then Australia. Amazingly my missus's surname was most popular in South Australia, cool site, the kids enjoyed it, thanks!

Here's the original story on it for anyone that might want to know who's created it and where they sourced their info...

For those who can't be bothered reading that...

It's by geographers at University College London and they used phone directories and electoral rolls.
