Obscene Salaries

Why should CEO's recieve the obscene amounts of money they do?
Why should they recieve bonuses for getting fired/leaving? the ordinary worker gets his entitlements & not even a thank-you.
As these companies start crying that they are doing it tough, they lay-off the rank & file worker- surely trimming their salsry by half (at least) would show true leadership, & set an example that belts need to be tightened.
Just as we have a minimum wage, there should be a maximum wage to prevent these CEO's pocketing millions for doing stuff all.

I actually found myself agreeing with Bill Shorten, when he was on TV advocating limiting executive salaries to 10 or 15 times the employee base rate.

As a small shareholder I would rather any money not coming to me as a shareholder went to keeping a reliable work force rather than giving obscene salaries and bonuses to the few fat cats at the top. But the major shareholders are the investment institutions, and their fat cat executives cast their companies' votes with the other fat cats.

Should happen but the government won't have the balls to bring in a maximum salary unfortunately.

exactly, while some are very large they are paid cause they have performed, if a CEO grows a company by $200m for its shareholders Im sure his getting paid a 1% bonus of $2m wouldnt be inappropriate

Unfortunately, the system is manipulated by the core group of fellow company executives who support each other in ripping off the broader owners/shareholders by block voting with each other.
I don't think you get what you pay for in many cases either.

Bonus for company growth, Dutchy - yes, it may be fair, but only if by the percentage growth is due to that person's effort and not simply generalised growth due to the current boom.
[Unless of course they are going to pay back a percentage for the slumps! ;) ]

I found something to agree with you on Psyber. I understand payments as a once off for growth but they should be passed onto all workers who make a contribution to the increased profits. Too many directors are looking after each other and lining their pockets with obscene salaries whilst the company is struggling in the current economy and sacking workers. That is what i have problem with.

This is the big thing why do some CEO's receive bonuses when the company is worse off than when they got there?
