Has anyone else been stood down / forced leave due to global financial crisis? I got stood down today, about a year after being made redundant from Mitsi.
Like I see Holdens are on 50% days, Borat Longyear moving to China/Perth.
The future looks bleak Im afraid, I thought that working in place that makes pumps would be booming business.

*and no I wasnt stood down due to being a Glenelg supporter, thats how I get jobs!!

Is there a standard redundancy payout for eg. 3weeks per year, or is it at the company's discretion? I have been at my place for 4 years, Any ideas what I'd get if push comes to shove?

Do you have a Union Collective Agreement? Or are you paid on the award? If it is the award then you would most likely be "worth" 7-9 weeks pay but if you are on a UCA it may be up to 4 weeks per year.

What made it worse.

My Last Day was 4th July....

American Independance Day around 1985....?

Your employer doesn't care about you....

We are all just numbers in a computer programme.

If I was an employer, that is how I would be...

I drive a relatively new Holden. I love Holdens'

I must admit here working for a Pharmaceutical company (well an almost Aussie wide chemist chain). That a recession may be a good thing in this line of work. As a very large amount of people will get depressed and rush out and buy anti depressants ;) .Because this week we have been overly busy for this time of the year might be the holiday Monday who knows.

On a more serious note my last job the company sold my section to the main competitor .And they took staff stock and customers .Turned out both companies serviced the same clients .the clients were pitting one against the other . Much of the floor "stock" had been there longer than me.And I ended up being the first to be given the nudge out the door.
Last job lasted 13 yrs this one almost 15 hopefully this one lasts many more.
Troy my mob are using employment agencies to hire casuals I hope that helps a little.
Cheers

Daryl Wakelin, Michael Wilson, Hitaf Rasheed, Phil Walsh, John James....

Surely you know better than me who didn't survive the 119 pt mauling of the PAFC by the GFC in 2007....
