Things slowing down?

With the World Economy on the slow down I want to keep a track of the companies that we all work for and the impact the G.F.C ( No Geelong or Glenelg FC jokes) is having upon your workplace.

The company I work for has already begun to feel the pinch. No body will be laid off ( only 2 of us work in the Adelaide branch ) and our "orders in hand" are good to keep us busy for the next 6 months or so, but new enquiries have dropped significantly in the last two weeks.

Anyone else noticing a drop off?

My husband works in the cleaning industry as a manager.
Some of their major/national clients who used to have their offices etc cleaned on a daily basis have cut back to 3 times a week.
From what I can gather the staff will need to be doing some cleaning during the day whilst at work.
So have had to cut costs in something, so it's the cleaning that's gone.

This therefore means a loss of 2 contracted days per site.
Which in the big picture is a lot less 'revenue' for the company.
Fingers crossed for my husband and his work mates that they remain 'safe' in their jobs,
In that not too many other companies make these cuts.

Also...
Spoke to a friend of ours who owns a hairdressing salon.
His sales are currently down $2000 a week.

So is affecting lots of different things

we're all safe at my work for now. which is good to know. things havent slowed down either, still as busy as ever. I just think we arent doing as many new home buyer loans as we'd like.

My kids are keeping me going

I work casually for a "Foreign Exchange" bureau, and if anything have been busier...

My wife has been flat out ! She's a Customs Broker, and has noticed the amount of clearances
she has to do has increased. As factories close, and Australian companies move manufacturing
overseas, her work load will only increase....

Building industry Alpine homes and apparentley Hickinbotham have closed up.

Buidling industry is becoming more and more cut throat. Feel sorry for the medium size companies cause when developers go out to tender they go out to about 7 - 12 different builders and the best price wins. Hard to compete.

LOL How to keep an idiot occupied, I spent at least 2 minutes on that one

We haven't felt any effects of it yet and our largest accounts are secure, in fact by the end of the financial year we should have added another 5-10 to the books.

I have no doubt though, that some or many of our clients will seriously feel the pinch and in turn that will most likely have ramifications for us.

know the feeling wedgie. it is good. just sucks that the real estate market hasnt picked up yet. people seem to be choosing to renovate rather than relocate.

Bloody well hope not i haven't got my keys yet. I thought they would be reasonably safe as they are a major player in the market, i thought.

The car component industry is one that is really struggling atm. With Holden, Ford and Toyota all cutting production significantly this year the component industry is really feeling the pinch. As many may know Nylex is a company that has had administrators appointed recently and they have two component businesses here in adelaide in Exacto Plastics and Nylex Fuel Tanks. The companies in these industries are currently working about 50% of the time and they have now nearly all exhausted their leave entitlements.

my workplace seems to be ok .as a chemist shop chain store with branches in 3 states (well only 1 in nsw).We still seem to be selling large amounts of stock by the number of full containers leaving the distribution centre.not to mention we supply opposition companies interstate and in country SA and they are still buying not to the same extent as our own shops but they are buying.

the business I work for is currently growing- put on a couple of new staff (2 created positions)

Our QLD and WA offices are still busy but experiencing a drop-off in new work from the mining industries in both states - many projects were put on hold or cancelled. We couldn't meet the demand 12 months ago.

Locally, we have been kept occupied with State Govt infrastructure projects, mainly in the water industry (including the desal plant & lower lakes pumping station)

Recruitment companies who were fleecing everybody with OTT fees when times were great now want to be our best friends at big discounts We couldn't find enough qualified staff now we can pick and choose again.

I have friends who work for Insolvency (accounting) firms and I bet they are booming

My workplace (earthmoving rentals) has been noticably quieter since mid december.

We have had one employee laid off. Luckily we are already one short in my branch so I'm in no immediate danger of losing my job.
