Carbohydrates are your enemy as a type 1 diabetic, carbs that are predominantly sugar based are a big no no for you, either type of coke is fine for you to drink with out affecting your BSL. Spirits also contain no carbs, therefore you can still enjoy a drink with your mates without the worry of your levels sky rocketing, just make sure that you have a responsible, relatively sober person around you incase your levels go too low and you need a "sugar fix".

Just for some further info:

Diet Coke does not use a modified form of the Coca-Cola recipe, but instead an entirely different formula. The controversial New Coke, introduced in 1985, used a version of the Diet Coke recipe that contained high fructose corn syrup and had a slightly different balance of ingredients. In 2004, Coca-Cola introduced Coca-Cola C2, which it claims tastes much closer to Coca-Cola but contains half the carbohydrates. In 2005, the company introduced Coca-Cola Zero, a sugar-free variation of regular Coca-Cola.

and

Diet Coke and Diet Pepsi have capitalized on the markets of people who require low sugar regimens, such as diabetics, athletes, and people concerned with calorie intake. In the UK, a 330 ml can of Diet Coke contains around 1.3 calories (5 kilojoules) compared to 142 calories (595 kJ) for a regular can of Coca-Cola.

Cadbury have a chocolate that you can still eat a satisfactory amount of, there is also some flavoured jelly beans that you can get in a box and when you combine them they have some awesome flavours, they are completely sugar-free aswell.
How do you go weighing foods etc. it's a fair pain in the arse hey. At least all of the major fast food outlets have heaps of info on exchange levels with all of the foods they have, it takes a lot of guess work out of the equation.

i dont weigh food or anything... i just try to eat healthier... occasionally i get too lazy and eat junk food but im trying to stop.
there is a pretty good hazelnut choc i get from foodland which is some of the best choc ive ever had.
but i dont really like too much other sugar free stuff.
sugar free cruisers are pretty good, i drink them now.
i just need to get in teh routine of never eating junk food etc and makin my lunches for work to so i dont go out n buy crap

im used to all the sugar free drinks now, i think the weighin of foods os more for younger ppl

Coke Zero is diet coke repackaged for the male market who seem to think that there is a stigma of drinking diet coke for some reason :?

My wife and I drink Zero because it tastes more like the normal coke. Diet coke doesn't taste quite the same in our opinion.

I've been told by a few people (call them cranks) that zero will stop you from sleeping (the guy who told me this had an adam's apple and boobs, go figure..) and another comment was that it's full of chemicals which have been proven to cause cancer.

Even in my discerning eyes, it'd be difficult to market anything that was "proven" to cause cancer.

PS. What doesn't cause cancer these days?

Diet Coke is a different formula to regular coke and so a completely different drink.
Coca Cola only called it Diet Coke to cash in on the Coke brand name.
Coke Zero is regular coke without sugar.

Both use artificial sweeteners.

Diet Coke has so many chemicals in it apparently, its more unhealthy than what conventional Coke is.

Diet Coke - No sugar, weaker taste

Coke Zero - No sugar but packed with more colours and additives to give it a more REAL COKE taste.... :?
