ANZAC Day

Postby Squawk » Tue Apr 21, 2009 10:08 pm

ANZAC Day falls on a Saturday this year so Saturday is the public holiday.

Just because most of us don't get a day off school or work, we shouldn't overlook reflection on Saturday amidst our usual Saturday activities.

Lest we Forget.

I will be playing football against TTG. I am expecting TTG to hold a great day remembering the people who fought for our great country and expect both Clubs in all grades to attend the day and play in the ANZAC spirit

Semaphore RSL has a good service, complete with a 21 gun salute and old warplane fly over. I've been the last 4 years. It's still bullshit we don't have a public holiday on the Monday or Friday. I heard it's because of the shops having a bitch they will miss out on cash, which wouldn't surprise me. Can't beat greed in this day and age. Any truth to that?

Lets hope some of the usual idiots at the SANFL Anzac day matches learn to keep thier mouths shut at the Minutes Silence at the Anzac day matches, or at least lets hope that Weslo and the redcoats turn a blind eye to idiots that cant control themselves having the living s**t beaten out of them afterwards by the rest of the crowd that do give a stuff about what Anzac day means.....

The service is at the monument at the end of Semaphore Road near the jetty. The RSL is about 50metres back up the road from where the service is. It's packed afterwards. Can't beat a beer at 7 in the morning! If everyone else is doing I don't feel like an alco.

I have the honour of playing footy on adelaide oval this year in the curtain raiser to the Centrals v Glenelg game. Being an adelaide boy its an honour to play on the SANFL's biggest day ( bar GF) and be part of the excitment and festivities. If you are not doing anything from 12:30 saturday come out and watch the best of the ADF go head to head with the Australian Combined Emergency Servisces. The bigger the crowd the better for these blokes.

Have just this minute booked a trip to the Western Front in Belgium for ANZAC day. Nothing like planning ahead! Will be attending a dawn service in Ypres, followed by a visit to the Australian War Memorial and then another service hosted by the Mayor of Ypres. Then on the Sunday we visit the battlefield in Passchendaele.

Should be a great experience and a great way to honour ANZAC day.
