Hey Spelly, Why is it so hot tonight?

As I type this it is 18.6 degrees at Kent Town and it reached 19.3 degrees at 8:49pm tonight, making it the hottest temperature recorded in June this year! (Previous hottest 19.0 degrees on June 21st)

Now, I know you won't have the answer but I will ask it anyway...has the maximum temperature for a month ever been recorded after 8pm at night?

(If you are in Adelaide now, go outside - it is weird how warm it is...)

PS It is currently over 20 degrees in Strathalbyn (at 10pm at night!)

Thick and low cloud cover bounces the radiant heat energy from the earth back to the earth's surface, which generally results in high overnight temperatures.

As for the temperature rising, I can only guess that the cloud cover has trapped a lot of heat energy from the day and as the radiation is reflected from the clouds back to the earth's surface, it collects more heat energy trapped within the clouds.

Supposed to be 16 today ... min (so far) was 17.5 at 5:14am and currently 18.6

Must be a mother of a blanket keeping all the heat in.

I was wondering why my dog didn't sleep in his kennel last night ...

I noticed the warmer weather last night and this morning, just thought it was a northerly that upped the temps

Not such a redundant question.

Its still possible to be online without power ... laptop on battery power with 3G card and the base station is live. ;)

The power flicked off and on a few times in Aldgate when the rains hit this morning, but then stayed on.
Perhaps that was relays kicking in when Bridgewater went out...

I don't have the definitive answer, but I'm sure there has been a maximum recorded after 8pm before. It was due to the Northerly winds bringing down the warm air that's around the centre of Aus at the moment. As such, the minimum temperature recorded for today was 12.4 - this happened at 9am yesterday morning, the start of the period in which the minimum is observed.

You can see when the temperature dropped - the wind turned Westerly.

Yes but has the highest temperature for a whole month ever been recorded after 8pm?
I would be willing to bet it hasn't...

Someone would have that sort of info somewhere, I'm only limited to the overall min and max along with rainfall. :) I think that what you have pointed out would put up a good case for being a first.
