I think the difference that bayman refers to is the french fries are more like strings compared to the thicker chips you get at the fish and chip shop.

Don't mind as long as they are crunchy.

Prefer thin crunchy chips.
The one's always at the bottom of the chip wrapper.
Connoisseurs appreciate the difference.

Love KFC chips. But occasionally have cravings for handfuls of Maccas fries.
Either way, it is the salt that makes them taste good.

I've recently become a fan of the wedge after a long stand off, doused in sour cream and sweet chilli sauce is superb.

"French Fries" are another ugly Americanism, and not French [or English] at all.

At the chicken shop at Cove shops (cant remember the name) you get the choice of french fries or chips.
